It's only been 7 months since Nintendo officially offered a reveal window for its successor Nintendo Switchbut for fans of the brand it feels like an eternity. Rumors about the as-yet-unannounced console have been trickling in from all corners of the internet for the past few months, from both reliable and questionable sources. At this point, it seems almost every bit of information about the Switch 2 has leaked online, including its specs, dimensions, and even its controllers. Despite all the hype, Nintendo has remained strangely quiet about the Switch's successor and offered little to no information about what fans should expect from it.
Much of the talk surrounding the Switch 2 has centered around its release date. Since the Switch 2 is expected to be announced before March 31, 2025, many have speculated that the console will be revealed in early January and launch during the summer. Others have even suggested that Nintendo's next system will launch as early as March. Regardless of when exactly the Switch 2 hits store shelves, it'll likely have a pretty extensive lineup of games at launch, including those from third-party developers. One of the games that would be perfect as a launch title for the console is Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact is supposed to be a launch title for the Switch 2
Genshin Impact is a Zelda inspired Gacha RPG from HoYoverse
Genshin Impact is one of the few AAA games that needs no introduction. This gacha RPG developed by HoYoverse had somewhat humble beginnings, but eventually evolved into a multi-billion dollar media giant in a relatively short span of time. Just a few years after its release on PlayStation 4, PC and iOS/Android in 2020, the game has generated a staggering $3.9 billion in revenue across all platforms. Genshin ImpactIts unprecedented success popularized the gacha game genre worldwide, which had previously been mostly niche outside of Asian territories.
Although Genshin Impact is often cited as an inspiration for many video games these days, some might forget that Genshin Impact itself is heavily inspired by Nintendo The Legend of Zelda series. Indeed, when HoYoverse's action RPG was first showcased at the ChinaJoy expo in 2019, many players accused it of being blatant. Breath of the Wild copycat, thanks to the similar-looking open world and sliding mechanics. After all, Genshin Impact came to be very different from BOTW in terms of gameplay and tone, but still adopted some of that Zelda charm.
Genshin Impact's Switch 2 Day-One release could make up for its delayed Switch port
Considering how much inspiration it takes from a classic Nintendo franchise, it's somewhat surprising that Genshin Impact not available on a Nintendo console. Although the game was announced for Switch in January 2020 (months before it was even released), the port is not yet in sight. In the years since then, Genshin Impact was brought to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no news of a Switch release. HoYoverse publicly stated in 2022 that the Nintendo Switch version of the game was still in development, but given the company's silence on the matter and the impending release of Switch 2, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that it has been cancelled.
Genshin Impact it can be played on mobile phones, but it's still a surprisingly demanding game, and because of that, the Switch may not be powerful enough to handle it. As such, the Switch 2 seems like the perfect home for HoYoverse's hit action RPG. Since the next Nintendo console will be more graphically capable than its predecessor, it is very likely that it will be able to run a game like Genshin Impact easily. However, if HoYoverse decides to bring the game to the Switch 2, they should aim to release it as a launch title for the system. Nintendo fans have already waited long enough to get their hands on them Genshin Impactso a day and date release on SwitchHis successor would be the perfect way to make up for it.
