Daredevil: Born Again might still be shrouded in mystery for the most part, but fans are one step closer to confirming which of the character's many iconic stories the show might adapt and which eagle-eyed fans have already seen to come

Daredevil: Born Again has been on fans' wish lists for years as Marvel Studios' answer to Netflix's Marvel fans Daredevil show calling for the character played by Charlie Cox to be brought back after the rights to all the Marvel characters in the Netflix roster reverted to Disney. Kevin Feige would eventually confirm Cox's return and announce Daredevil: Born Again, which made it far into production before being scrapped for further development. The new iteration of the series would see the return of many more characters from the Netflix era, including some iconic villains.

Many fans have long speculated that the MCU could adapt the Devil's Reign storyline from the comics that saw the Kingpin ascend to a mayoral seat, and now it's only been confirmed by the man behind the muscle himself, Vincent D'Onofrio. As Popverse reported, D'Onofrio was asked about his interest in reprising his role for an upcoming adaptation of the Devil's Reign story at Dragon Con, and his sly answer pretty much gave the game away. “It's a very interesting question. I can't answer that because we have a new season coming out of Daredevil,” D'Onofrio replied before giving the excited audience another verbal snap. “I'm sure you understand. Otherwise, I'd be smacking my lips for the next thirty minutes and it would be so much fun, but that's not happening.”

If the future project, which Daredevil: Born Again actor insists he's going beyond the TV-friendly violence of the Netflix version, indeed adapting Devil's Reign, then things could get really interesting. In the comic story, Wilson Fisk uses the power of his elected office to outlaw the unsanctioned heroes, mobilizing an iteration of thunder be his executioners as he takes down many heroes. Many of the plot points in Devil's Reign are pretty important, with at least one major character dead by the end and Luke Cage being set up as the new mayor. The original story is a bit more of an ensemble event than a Daredevil deal, but the overall plot structure could certainly be used to great effect in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Despite the name, Daredevil: Born Again was never likely to adopt the story it's named after, as the Netflix-era series already did a version of it. With Devil's Reign, there's a lot more new material to work with, especially for D'Onofrio's new canon MCU antagonist. The Kingpin might just be the perfect new villain for Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and the man himself has spoken about his desire to go toe-to-toe with the spider at least once. Using the facets of the Devil's Reign story to make the character more prominent in the MCU would open all sorts of useful doors for a franchise that seems determined to tell more grounded stories with its upcoming project book. A villain like the Kingpin is an excellent choice for a post-Deadpool and Wolverine with projects like the inspired political thriller Captain America: Brave New World and the equally well-founded Thunder*. Despite having powerful characters like the Hulk and the Sentry involved, these projects give off a very different vibe than the previous one.The end of the game fare, and D'Onofrio is already a perfect fit.

D'Onofrio's genuine interest in the character and his relationship with fans around his revenge are just a few of the reasons why the creator of the Netflix movie. Daredevil he thinks it's impossible to recast the Kingpin role. If the Devil's Reign it is will be the order of the day in Daredevil: Born Again and other upcoming MCU projects, then there is no better actor to portray the character at the height of his political power and influence. For now, fans will have to wait patiently until the show premieres.

Daredevil: Born Again It is currently scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in March 2025.
