The events you encounter are entirely random, and some events have their own random components to contend with, such as the Face Trader event which has a 50/50 chance of rewarding you with a “good” face or ” bad”. Below, we'll take a look at everything you need to know about the Face Trader event, including what each of the masks you can get from it does.
The Face Trader event explained
Face Trader is a random event that can occur during Acts 1 and 2in which you will meet a strange being who wants to change your face.
You will be presented with three options, which are detailed below.
- Touching: Lose 10% of max HP but gain 75 gold.
-
Trade: Randomly gain one of the following Mask Relics.
- Neutral face: Cultust Headpiece – Feel more talkative.
- good face: Face of Cleric – Increase your maximum HP by 1 after each battle.
- good face: Ssserpent Head – Whenever you enter a ? room, earn 50 gold.
- Bad face: Gremlin Visage – Starts each battle with 1 Weak.
- Bad face: N'loth's Hungry Face – The next non-boss chest you open is empty.
- Go away: Exit the event without doing anything.
While the flavor text for the Trade option says 50% Good Side, 50% Bad Side, the actual odds are 40% for a good face, 40% for a bad face and 20% for a neutral face.
Should you swap faces?
This event has the potential to give your build a massive boost, especially if you get it early in Act 1. The face of a cleric it is a very powerful relic ie stronger the longer you have itand Sserpent Head is just as powerful in the early game.
If you find the Face Trader late in Act 2, it may be a better idea to take the Touch option and get gold, or leave altogether, as Bad Face Relics can be very damaging. Gremlin Visage in particular can result in a failed run such as the first turn of combat is often one of the most important.
If you don't mind save yourself the disappointmentyou can switch faces, check which one you would have received, then reload your save, which will put you right before you make your decision. If you have a bad face, you can choose Tap or Leave, but if you have a good face, you can repeat the Trade option and continue.
Reloading the save does not change the outcome of the rollbut it may allow you to make a different decision.
