Updated November 30, 2024, by Jon Eakin: Blackjack and Poker are fun on their own, but Red Dead Redemption 2 does such a good job of elevating them with the in-game atmosphere that it's almost a shame to step away from the table to really engage with the game's story. With that in mind, we've updated this list with new features and information to help you make the most of your time.

8 Tumbleweed – Poker

It cannot be accessed until you have completed the main story

Location

West of Armadillo.

The best feature

Nostalgia for the first game.

Located on the left side of the map, Tumbleweed is a classic western town with a saloon that hosts poker matches. Unfortunately, since this area is west of Blackwater, you can only access this town after completing the main story.

Because this area is so isolated from the rest of the map, traveling to Tumbleweed just to play poker is a waste of time and effort. That being said, if you happen to complete the epilogue and are looking for a quick mini-game to play, then Tumbleweed Saloon will always have a poker match available.

7 Flatneck Station – Poker

Accessible, but nothing special

An image of Flatneck Station, a train station in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Location

East of Bard's Crossing.

The best feature

Close to Valentine's Day.

Located next to The Heartlands, Flatneck Station is a train station that connects the entire map and is also home to a lively poker table. To unlock this poker game, you must first complete the mission “Who Is Not Sinless”, which will also unlock every other poker mini-game on the map.

This story quest requires you to help a drunk Reverend Swanson win two rounds of poker and then protect the preacher from various threats in the open world. After completing this quest, you can use the station poker table whenever you want.

On a barrel at Flatneck Station is the Tall Trees Cigarette Card.

6 Van Horn Trading Post – Blackjack

The best option when you are on the edge of the map

Location

South of Annesburg.

The best feature

One of three Duel locations in the game.

As you play through the story mode, the conclusion of the narrative will take you to the top right of the map. Van Horn Trading Post is one of two dreary coastal towns in this region that focus on industry and trade to generate profit.

Red Dead Redemption 2: How honor actually affects the story

Red Dead Redemption 2 has an honor system that alters the events of the main story, and here's how high and low levels of it can affect things.

In the parlor of this dilapidated outpost, you'll find a blackjack table with a dealer who will openly invite you to a game. While there is certainly nothing wrong with this location, there are simply other areas on the map that offer better service and nicer views.

5 Camping – Poker

Accessible but inconsistently available

Location

Varies by chapter.

The best feature

Play with the gang.

As you progress through the story of Red Dead Redemption 2, you and the gang will create various campsites on the map whenever you travel to new towns. These campsites are usually located on the outskirts of the town where the actual story takes place and host various activities such as fishing, eating, and resting.

Occasionally, you can participate in a game of poker at these campsites against various characters in your gang. Since this option is not constantly available, other poker tables are always much easier to access. However, nothing is as fun as beating up your fellow gang members and taking their money.

4 Valentine – Poker

Available in early game

Location

North of Caliban's Seat.

The best feature

Ease of access.

The picturesque town of Valentine is located in the center of the entire map, and this village is the first location that you and the gang visit in the story mode of Red Dead Redemption 2. The salon of this muddy frontier town is equipped with a hair. lounge and a poker table.

Since this location is unlocked very early in the game, you may need to remember to complete the mission at Flatneck Station before you can participate in a poker game at the saloon. Since Valentine is in such a central location, stopping at this poker table is always a great choice if you happen to be riding through the area.

3 Rhodes – Blackjack

The most sophisticated way to play Blackjack

Location

North of Braithwaite Manor.

The best feature

Close to central on the map.

The city of Rhodes is an iconic location in the game where Dutch and his gang become entrenched in a generational conflict between two southern houses. Rhodes also stands out among the other cities on this list because the location has distinctive red-hued dirt and is full of classic southern architecture.

How much do you know about the Van Der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2? These are the basics.

The Rhodes Lounge is the grandest part of town, and this large two-story building houses a blackjack game on the second floor. If you want to live a sophisticated southern fantasy, then this is the perfect location for worthy gambling.

Although the Rhodes Salon may feel sophisticated, this air of civility is paper thin. Lemoyne Raiders can be encountered inside the saloon, so keep your wits about you and be ready for battle.

2 Blackwater – Poker and Blackjack

It offers a variety of games and high-stakes poker

An image of the Blackwater saloon from Red Dead Redemption 2.

Location

South of Riggs Station.

The best feature

Poker and Blackjack under one roof.

If you've played even a small part of Red Dead Redemption 2's famous story mode, then you'll know that Dutch and his gang are wanted criminals in Blackwater, a city located in the south of the map near the ocean. This reward is only picked up after completing the main story, so you won't be able to play poker or blackjack in this area until then.

That being said, this is still a great place to play any of these card games as it is the only location in the game where the poker table and blackjack table are in the same lounge. Furthermore, the Blackwater poker table is considered a high-stakes game because it costs five dollars to enter instead of the usual two dollar entry fee.

1 Saint Denis – Poker

Only high risk and high reward

An image of the saloon in the town of Saint Denis from Red Dead Redemption 2.

Location

East of Rhodes.

The best feature

Countless amenities nearby.

The largest city in the game is Saint Denis, an industrialized cityscape in the lower right of the map that is inspired by New Orleans. After completing the story missions in Rhodes, you and the gang will travel to this city to rescue a missing member and plan several schemes.

Because this area of the map is so large, Saint Denis is home to every type of shop in the game. If you ever find yourself traveling to town for supplies or upgrades, you can also rest with a quick game of poker. In addition, the poker table in this city is also a high-stakes table, which requires you to use more money when playing, thus increasing the overall prize pool.

The poker table isn't the only way to lose money in this establishment; whiskey costs twice as much here as in other locations. Protect your wallet and your senses by keeping a clear head and buying your drinks elsewhere.
