Emmerich Voss is the perfect Indiana Jones villain
Emmerich Voss is something of a combination of Gestapo officer and Dr. René Belloq from Raiders Of The Lost Ark and I honestly don't think there is a better foil for Indiana Jones. He is an archaeologist with deep knowledge of the ancient world, just like Indy, but his status as a high-ranking Nazi officer embodies Indy's other main enemy, the Germans. He's a Nazi grave robber with the charisma and knowledge to match Indy's expertise, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle does an amazing job of infusing this unique character with qualities that embody the opposite of what Indiana Jones stands for.
