Arcane Showrunner Respects Season 2 Criticism That It Feels Rushed

With season two of Arcane airing, fans will be a little bummed that it won't be getting another season. You'd think that considering it's the most expensive animated show ever made, Riot and Netflix would want it to last longer. However, this will not be the case and they are already exploring more shows in the League of Legends universe.

Arcane's final act leans toward the weird with so many of its characters and events.

Although the show was generally well received, there were complaints about the pacing of the second season. Some fans felt that it was difficult to understand how much time was passing and that several major events unfolded without being properly explored. Showrunner Christian Linke addressed some of these complaints.

You can't please everyone

In a conversation with GamesRadar+, Linke explained that he respects the opinion of those who think the second season was rushed, but the creators decided to approach it differently than the first, which some may not have liked.

A close-up of Kinx in episode two of Arcane season two slumped to the ground with his head down in sadness.

“When people watch Season 1, there's a pacing aspect … Season 2 is a little different in that regard,” Linke said. “I respect that people express that [opinion]. You're right – the vast majority of the audience seems to be happy. But there are people who say, “It's rushed. What's going on?'”

He explained that the team wanted to try something new with season two and decided to change the approach. However, there were fans who preferred the pacing and narrative style of the first season and may be disappointed by this new approach. “I'm not happy that they feel that way, but I respect that.”

He went on to say that “there are people who say it's too rushed, there's too much going on. There is also the reverse. I see, “Where's Camille? It is part of Piltover. Where is Blitzcrank? Where is Twitch? Why didn't you include them? On the one hand, you have people who say it's too much, on the other hand, you have people who say we didn't do enough and we did our best… It's hard to do our best to include the right amount of story.

With the final three episodes streaming, it was previously reported that Arcane would be getting three spin-off shows. However, Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill later clarified that one of the shows will focus on three regions and that they are “exploring a bunch of different shows (and games).”

Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane centers on sisters Violet and Powder (later Jinx) as they find themselves on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and the dark undercity whose citizens want to break free by their oppressors. Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell and Kevin Alejandro star in this animated adventure.
