What to expect from Fallout 76 in 2025
While 2024 will be a tough year to compete with, 2025 is already shaping up to be another big year for Fallout 76 based on the franchise's momentum.
Fallout 76's new Feral Ghoul mechanic is a game changer for melee builds
Immediately after becoming a Ghoul in Fallout 76players will need to start managing their Feral levels. The player's Feral level starts at 100%, providing positive health and AP benefits. Over time, this Feral level will naturally decrease, and the positive benefits will eventually become negative side effects as players get closer to becoming Feral.
Currently, the player's Feral meter takes about two hours to fully decrease from 100% to 0%. There is no way to speed up this process yet, although players can refill their Feral levels by consuming any chemical other than Stimpaks.
Once the player's Feral level fully reaches 0%, melee damage will increase by 200%, while reducing ranged weapon accuracy by 300% when hip shooting or using VATS in Fallout 76. While the training time to become a full wild Ghoul is admittedly quite high, this unique wild melee benefit makes it worth the investment for melee builds. Fallout 76given that the Feral status will persist as long as players avoid consuming any chemicals.
Should players ever decide to switch to a ranged weapon, using a chem or two will negate the -300% accuracy debuff for a few minutes, though this will also negate the +200% melee buff .
Even outside of the main benefit of Feral status, most of the new Perk cards are included Fallout 76 which are exclusive to the playable Ghoul character are generally suitable for melee builds. As a result, going Feral as a Ghoul can take players' melee builds to the next level, thanks to a significant buff that stacks especially well with other permanents and temporary ailments.
Becoming a Wild Ghoul in Fallout 76 is a double-edged sword
Besides reduced max health and AP, Feral or not, becoming a Ghoul in Fallout 76 will prevent players from being able to use certain perk cards that are exclusive to humans. Finally, becoming a Ghoul has both positive and negative side effects that players should consider. In the case of ranged weapon builds, whether the new Ghoul builds are better than human builds is generally subjective. However, it seems that the upcoming playable character Ghoul will pave the way for a new end meta Fallout 76 specifically for building melee weapons.
