Assassin's Creed Mirage got off to a rough start on Steam, having launched to a much lower peak player count than recent entries in the series. Although Assassin's Creed Mirage has been available on other PC showcases since October 2023, it was recently released on Steam after a year of waiting.
For many players, Assassin's Creed Mirage was a great opportunity to return to the long-running series, which had taken a new entry-level RPG approach original, Odysseyand Valhalla. Assassin's Creed Mirage received positive reviews from critics and was generally seen as a solid return to the series' roots. It was essentially what many fans have been asking for over the years. Despite its positive reception, Ubisoft's decision to leave it on Steam at launch meant that many PC gamers had not played Assassin's Creed Mirage still.

The SteamDB player count charts don't paint a pretty picture for the early days of Assassin's Creed MirageThe launch of Steam. On its first Saturday of release, when it would be expected to hold the most players, the game peaked at 6,381 players at the time of writing. Looking at recent games from assassin's creed series, original peaked at 41,551 players, Odyssey to 62,069 and Valhalla at 15,679. This is a considerable decrease for Assassin's Creed Mirage. In the interest of fairness, Valhalla it's the only game of the RPG trio that didn't have a first-day Steam release, which explains its own lower number.
Assassin's Creed Mirage's Steam player count is lower than recent records
To put these figures into perspective, at the time of writing, Assassin's Creed Mirage has 3,691 current players. Assassin's Creed Odysseywhich was launched in 2018, has 3,370. These early raw numbers could change, of course, but they're certainly surprising, especially given that Assassin's Creed Mirage released on Steam with a massive 50% discount, dropping it to $24.99 until October 24th.
There's no doubt that the numbers are skewed by the delayed Steam launch, but that won't be a problem for Ubisoft games going forward. Assassin's Creed Shadows will launch day one on Steam, as will most of the publisher's games going forward, which should make a big difference in making the player count look much healthier for the series. As for the series as a whole, it's going to be a busy couple of years. A recent rumor suggested that ten assassin's creed games are slated for release over the next five years, which would be a big step up for a series that hasn't released a main title in either 2021 or 2022. Let's wait and see if it comes to fruition.
