Assassin's Creed Mirage will reportedly get DLC funded by Saudi Arabia

Summary

  • While Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released in March, it looks like Assassin's Creed Mirage will be getting some kind of DLC.

  • According to a report by a French newspaper, Saudi Arabia's Savvy Games and Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot have met and agreed on some sort of DLC partnership.

  • For what it's worth, Saudi Arabia has made major investments in gambling over the past few years.

While much of the focus on the Assassin's Creed franchise has been on the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows, it looks like Assassin's Creed Mirage is set for some DLC. For reference, Mirage was released in October 2023 and served as the first Valhalla game of the 2020s, albeit on a smaller scale and price.

As first noted by Video Games Chronicle, Savvy Games, an investment group funded directly by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, is reportedly funding a DLC expansion for Mirage. Information about Mirage's revitalized future comes from French newspaper Les Echos, which reports that the group and Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot met at one point and have since decided to move forward with DLC.

At this time, it is unclear the scope of the project or when it will be launched. After yet another delay, Assassin's Creed Shadows will finally be released on March 20, meaning the DLC has a short window to appear before launch, or it will appear after. What the reported move does is continue Saudi Arabia's investment in the video game space.

Saudi has several game connections

The Saudi PIF currently owns an 8.58% stake in Nintendo, although the country has been considering whether to increase its stake. Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al-Saud discussed the country's plans in October, saying “There are always opportunities.”

Elsewhere, there's an 8.97 percent stake in Koei Tecmo to go along with a reported $3 billion investment made in Activision, EA and Take-Two through stock purchases. Another $1 billion has been invested in Capcom and Nexon to gain a five percent stake, while another $1 billion in Embracer Group has been reported in 2022.

In addition to all this, the MiSK foundation owns the Japanese video game publisher and developer SNK outright. Later this year, SNK will release Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and it will reportedly feature a collaboration with soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays in the Saudi Pro League. All of which means that a potential Mirage DLC is more or less par for the course.
