Boxing Hall of Famer Lou DiBella believes Jermell Charlo “wouldn’t have fared well” against Tim Tszyu after the American was comprehensively beaten by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
DiBella’s claim comes after Charlo called out Terence Crawford in his post-fight interview, although the latter took to social media to declare he has no interest in that bout.s

Charlo moved up two weight classes for a chance to fight the Mexican superstar and the undisputed super middleweight crown but was dominated by Alvarez for 12 rounds.
DiBella felt the lay-off was telling in Charlo’s performance and felt he would have struggled had it been Tszyu in the ring instead of Alvarez.
“I don’t think Tim Tszyu would have had any problem with Charlo tonight,” DiBella posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The layoff would have mattered big time. It mattered vs Canelo; that whitewash wasn’t about size difference, it was about levels and readiness to fight.
“Charlo wasn’t fight ready, IMHO. Just sayin.”
A user replied that it isn’t fair to compare Tszyu to Canelo, but DiBella fired back and felt it didn’t matter given Charlo’s inactivity.
“You should know that not fighting, a serious lack of activity, can ruin a fighter,” DiBella wrote.
“Charlo was actually looser and fighting a bit better later in the fight. Tonight, he wouldn’t have fared well with a younger, just as strong, and very active, Tim Tszyu.”
Charlo’s decision to fight Alvarez also meant Tszyu was promoted from interim status to a full world champion and will defend the WBO super welterweight title on October 15 against Brian Mendoza.
The winner of that bout is slated to fight Charlo and although he believes his next bout will be either Tszyu or Mendoza, he only has eyes for Crawford.
“I’m down to fight whoever.”
“I want to fight Terence Crawford. F*** that, I could fight Terence Crawford at my weight division. I’d fight Terence Crawford.
“Let him fight Errol Spence or whatever they’ve got going on, let them get that out the way. I’m waiting. I’m about to get back right into training.”
However, Crawford blasted Charlo in a series of posts and said the latter “should be ashamed” for how he performed against Alvarez.
“@TwinCharlo you went out sad. Didn’t even try to win, all you did was try to survive,” Crawford wrote on X.
“You should be ashamed of yourself.
“Ok y’all I’m over @TwinCharlo he’s no longer on my hit list. He went out there and laid down and let Canelo spank him like he was his daddy with no type of resistance.
“Congratulations @Canelo you made the so called lion look like a baby cub.”
Even if the Crawford bout does not materialise, Charlo admitted his primary focus for his next fights are about the star power of his opponents as well as “making the most money.”
“I just follow the plans and fight whoever,” Charlo said in his post-fight press conference.
“It’s about being great and I’m already a legend in boxing. Hopefully you put me in the Hall of Fame. I don’t know who the hell controls that, but I deserve it.”
“It’s about fighting the best fights and making the most money at this point in my life and career.
“So fighting Mendoza or Ta-Zoo, who’s got an Australian fanbase, is just not as satisfying to me sometimes.
“Like I said, I listen to my coaches, follow the plans with my management and go from there.”
