Perched on a stool, Finucane and Baranov sang an acoustic version of Tina Turner’s iconic song The Best, which has been adopted as a rugby league anthem after Turner fronted in the NRL’s advertising campaign in the 1990s.
The cast of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical will perform the pre-game entertainment at the NRL Grand Final on Sunday.
And Finucane did Turner justice, strumming along on guitar and showing off his vocal chops as he harmonised beautifully with Baranov.
It showed a different side to the 32-year-old, who won two premierships with the Melbourne Storm before moving to the Sharks.
Rugby league fans were blown away, praising Finucane for his impressive performance.
NRL.com reporter Brad Walter wrote on X: “Great to see Tina Turner acknowledged among those lost to rugby league this year with Dale Finucane performing Simply The Best.”
Balmain Tigers legend Garry Jack said: “WOW! Dale Finucane and your singing partner…just amazing. Thankyou.”
The NRL Roast account posted: “BREAKING NEWS: Dale Finucane has been added to the Grand Final entertainment as the Sax Player for the Tina Tribute show.”
