Dead by Daylight introduces a new collection based on Junji Ito's creepy manga creations, with new skins for both Killers and Survivors.
Introduction of Fuchi: rumors
Fuchi, sometimes known as Miss Fuchi, first appeared in a short story titled rumors in Souichi's Curse Journal, a 1997 anthology of stories centering around the strange, curse-loving child Souchi Tsujii (who will appear in Dead in daylight like a Trickster skin.) In the story, Souichi tries to spread rumors about himself being rich and famous, but the rumors are debunked by his ex-boyfriend, Midori. Souichi then tricks Midori into thinking she will become beautiful if she bathes in a local swamp.
To spread the rumor about the swamp, Souichi finds pictures of a model named Fuchi, who has a terrifying, zombie-like appearance and claims that she bathed in the swamp and is now beautiful. Midori falls into the trap and Souichi sneaks into the swamp to photograph her. However, Fuchi appears and reveals himself to be a cannibalistic monster with razor sharp teeth. She attacks Souichi when he takes her photo; the story ends ambiguously, but Souichi probably survives as he continues to appear in more stories.
Fuchi's story: Fashion model
Fuchi then appears in the next story in the collection, fashion model, working again as a professional model. Notably, Fuchi is the main character of this story and Souichi doesn't appear at all. Fuchi is hired to appear in an indie film produced by a group of students. When she mistakenly believes that Iwasaki, the screenwriter, finds her beautiful, she becomes obsessed with him.
Finally, Fuchi finds herself jealous of Tamae Mori, the beautiful lead actress of the film, and eats Tamae to become the star. When the other members of the production team are horrified by her actions, she kills and eats them as well, leaving Iwasaki alive. Like many other Junji Ito stories, Fashion model it also has an ambiguous ending, with Fuchi declaring that she will “keep Iwasaki for herself” as the manga abruptly ends.
Other appearances of Fuchi: Dead By Daylight And more
Fuchi makes another appearance, in a short story named The Secret of the Haunted Mansion in the 2002 anthology Voices in the Dark. There, Souichi and Fuchi are married and have a son, living together in a haunted house. The son inherits Fuchi's sharp teeth and cannibalistic diet. However, the story is eventually revealed to be a nightmare that Souichi had, possibly based on his continued fear of Fuchi after meeting her in Rumors.
In the 2018 animated series Junji Ito Collection, Fashion Model was adapted as part of the second episode. This is where Fuchi became famous for her laugh, a creepy, scratchy chuckle that she tends to let out while attacking and eating her victims. Unfortunately, she did not appear in Junji Ito Maniac, the second animated anthology based on his work, which aired on Netflix in 2023.
In dead in the daylight Fuchi will be a legendary skin for The Artist assassin. Fuchi appears in the game in it Fashion model look, wearing a pink dress and with what appears to be the blood of one of her victims covering her teeth and hands. She'll be coming up with new vocal lines – including, of course, her iconic laugh. With her tall, twisted appearance and killer rictus grin, Fuchi is sure to be a terrifying foe to face when she arrives in Dead in daylight.
