Emmrich in Dragon Age: Veilguard needs you to calm down some wrinkles by solving puzzles, but doing so might open a door to more than you bargained for.
How to beat the burgeoning evil
You will directly find the spirit of Curiosity south of Belfry Hollowwhich is where the leaders of the Mourn Watch are. If this is your first visit to the Necropolis after recruiting Emmrich, you'll need to take the northeast exit and destroy some red lily barriers to open the south door. There are a set of Venatori cultists along the path, but you don't have to fight them as part of this quest.
Once you reach the spirit's location, the Spectral Court, you will find that Curiosity has already become a demon of Evil and possessed a corpse. You will have to fight to complete this mission. Evil is vulnerable to necrotic damage and resistant to cold, making Emmrich and Lucanis the best party members for this quest. It also has some annoying attacks:
- Evil can shoot two or three types of projectile attack. Sometimes they overlap, forcing you to do nothing but dodge or block for a few moments.
- Evil can cause an orb to erupt from the ground and shoot a spinning laser. You must stay in motion to avoid this damage.
- Malice has an area attack that hits a T-shape in front of him. You have to dodge backwards or diagonally forward to avoid it.
- Evil can also hit everyone near it with an area attack centered on itself.
- The only attack that slows Malice is a burst. Nothing else will knock it down or stagger it, including the Stagger condition.
Once the Burgeoning Malice falls down, it drops a chest with an item and Fade Crystals inside. You can now return to the Mourn Watch leaders for a reward of 400 gold, +250 Mourn Watch Strength and access to the next Hauntings quest, “Restless Dreams”. You can also stay in the Spectral Court to solve a puzzle.

How to check relationship status and approval in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it is possible to check how the relationship between the companions is progressing beyond the pop-up messages of “Neve Approves”. Here's how.
How to solve the Spectral Court Wisp puzzle
In the western part of the Spectral Court, you can see an orange flame. Have Emmrich use Placate Mischief on her to release a thread. This wire will then indicate five unlit braziers in a certain order. This command is:
- The brazier in the northwest corner
- The western brazier at the entrance
- The brazier behind the central altar
- The brazier behind the eastern sarcophagus
- The eastern brazier at the entrance
If you light the braziers in this specific order, the streamer will open his sarcophagus and let you take the Memento inside. If you light them in a different order, the braziers will go out and you will have to try again. If you weren't fast enough to follow the streak, you can use Placate Mischief again to make it repeat the sequence.
Also, the bolt will follow you after you solve the puzzle, and there's a spot nearby where you can use it to open a door. Take the southern exit from the room into Cascades to find a flimsy node to the right. Using the bolt here will open the door and give you access to a large chest. With the puzzle completed, you can now return to the Mourn Watch for your quest reward.
