8 Super Saiyan God
The first step to unlock divine Ki which was surpassed not long after
- Known Users: Goku, Vegeta
- Debut in form:Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods
After a long wait, fans were eager to check out another one Dragon Ball film that was canon and introduced a new form to the series. The Super Saiyan God form served as a gateway for Goku to unlock divine ki, reaching a point where he faded to a base Super Saiyan form, but was still strong enough to fight Beerus due to the power unlocked by Super Saiyan God.
Fans expected to see this transformation later in the series, only for Super Saiyan Blue to appear in the Resurrection F and become the base form for Saiyans in Dragon Ball Super. Except for a brief appearance in Dragon Ball Super: Broly courtesy of Vegeta, this form hasn't been that relevant since its first appearance.
7 Frieza's second and third transformations
A brief introduction before this tyrant transforms into his final form
- Known Users: Frieze
- Debut in form:Battle Power: One million?? (Episode 78 of Dragon Ball Z) & Frieza's second transformation (Episode 82 of Dragon Ball Z)
There's no denying that Frieza is one of the most diabolical antagonists in history Dragon Ball. His brutal actions led to Goku's anger overwhelming him as he unlocked the Super Saiyan transformation for the first time in the series. Prior to this point, this tyrant had done a great job of flexing his abilities, showing the great wealth of transformations he could use to increase his power.
Before settling on the form everyone is familiar with, Frieza took out two forms that increased his power just enough to make the Z Warriors fear his power. The second transformation made him look like his father, while the third feels like Toriyama's take on the iconic Xenomorph design from Alien.
6 Fake Super Saiyan

Dragon Ball: Every time the Great Ape form is used in the anime
This extremely rare transformation happens to be one of the coolest.
After being beaten to a pulp by Lord Slug, the Namekian's hurtful words unleashed a wave of rage in Goku, who reached a new height in power and transformed into a False Super Saiyan. Although he lacked his iconic golden hair, the golden aura made it clear that Goku's power was at a whole new level at this point.
5 Great Namekian
Giantification of a Namekian
- Known Users: Piccolo
- Debut in form:Enter King Piccolo (Episode 102 of Dragon Ball)
After a long wait, Piccolo unlocked a brand new transformation that made her relevant again. Orange Piccolo may not be the greatest name, but he looks great in this form, especially when he remembers that he can transform and become a giant to take on Cell Max.
The fact that Piccolo himself has forgotten this ability shows how much this great Namekian transformation was ignored after a solitary appearance in Dragon Ball. Superhero aimed for a kaiju fight and brought this giant form back, but it's clear that Piccolo won't be using this power soon after this appearance.
4 Third Class Super Saiyan
A Saiyan grows so much that his speed is greatly affected
- Known Users: Goku, Future Trunks, Caulifla, Vegeta (default)
- Debut in form:Trunks Ascends (Episode 162 of Dragon Ball Z)
Before reaching the perfected form of an Ascended Super Saiyan, there are different degrees that these fighters reach. The Grade II form is very useful and helps Vegeta break apart the Semi-Perfect Cell, but there is another grade that is supposed to be stronger but suffers from a handicap.
The Third Class Super Saiyan form can increase a warrior's strength, but this comes at the cost of a Saiyan's agility. There's no point in using this form as most fighters won't be able to land a single hit. Therefore, Super Saiyan 3rd Class is only shown to highlight this disadvantage before becoming obsolete, except for a cameo appearance in Dragon Ball Super when Caulifla made the same mistake and learned a lesson from Goku.
3 Monster form
Zarbon shows his true power, only to be incapacitated
- Known Users: Zarbon
- Debut in form:Zarbon's surprise (Episode 53 of Dragon Ball Z)
The Namek Saga allows Vegeta to show the power of the Zenkai Boost after his first defeat against Zarbon. He thought he had the power against Frieza's lackey, only for Zarbon to abandon his beauty and become a complete monster that almost kills Vegeta.

2 Super Saiyan Rage
Future Trunks unlocks a new form
- Known Users: Future Trunks
- Debut in form:Zamasu's Ambition Terror's “Project 0 Mortals” Story (Episode 61 of Dragon Ball Super)
Future Trunks can't seem to catch a break. Even after defeating the androids and bringing some sense of stability to its world, Earth is once again threatened by Goku Black and Future Zamasu, who kill their mother just before switching to the current timeline in hopes of having ask Goku and Vegeta to help him. outside.
After being beaten to a pulp again, Trunks' anger spills over and helps him unlock a new transformation. This helps him become almost as powerful as the Saiyan duo who have unlocked godly transformations. This new form is poorly explained and doesn't appear until after the Future Trunks arc, making it one of the many question marks plaguing this story in Dragon Ball Super.
1 Evil Boo
The manifestation of Buu's evil side that transforms not long after
- Known Users: Boo
- Debut in form:The evil of people (Episode 254 of Dragon Ball Z)
After Majin Buu decides to change his ways, all the evil in his body is expelled to form a new version of this villain who only has evil in his heart. Despite looking quite weak, Evil Buu boasts enough strength to defeat his pure-hearted half and absorb him.
After this brief appearance, Evil Buu transforms into Super Buu, a character everyone is familiar with. It may not be a direct transformation per se, but it still packs an impact with just one fight, showing just how terrifying Buu can be when faced with no distractions.
