Every Free Game in the Epic Games Store Holiday Sale

Epic offers free games through its online store year-round, but kicks things up a notch for the holidays. Instead of offering a game or two a week during the 2023 festive period, Epic offered a total of 17 games. It started its holiday event with a week-long giveaway and then went on to offer a free game every day for more than two weeks.

Control

Control puts you in the shoes of Jesse Faden, the new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. You must explore the organization's headquarters, uncovering its mysteries and confronting a supernatural force called Hiss.

Christmas Day is here and some of you may have already received some games as gifts today. Hopefully not so many that you've had your fill, as the Epic gift wheel keeps turning, and just in time for Christmas Day, Epic comes up with a big old gift. Remedy's Control is free right now, and I know I probably shouldn't have favorites, but this is the best game Epic has put out so far this current holiday. No studio in the world does supernatural like Remedy, and Control is as good as what they gave us with Alan Wake. Yes, I said it.

The controller will be available to claim for free until 11:00 AM EST on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at which time it will be replaced with the next free game in the Epic Holiday Offer.

Dear

Captain your own fishing boat in Dredge, out on the water during the day so you can sell your haul once that day is done. There's more to it than just waiting beneath the waves, though.

It's Christmas Eve, or maybe even Christmas Day, depending on when you're reading this, and Epic has saved a big one for what is one of the most significant days of its holiday offerings – Dredge. An indie hit that's reaching levels of recognition that most indie games can only dream of when it launches in 2023, and now you can pick it up for free provided you've seen it in time. Venture into the virtual seas, bringing familiar pockets and uncovering the mysteries hidden beneath the waves, sell what you find and do it all over again the next night. It's so much more than I thought and a game you absolutely must try if you haven't already.

December 23 – 24: Dark And Darker – Legendary status

mixcollage-07-dec-2024-12-07-am-1388.jpg

Dark And Darker is a battle royale game with a twist. Set in a dungeon, it combines elements of games like Escape from Tarkov with D&D and roguelikes.

It's been a big and complicated year for the developers of Dark And Darker. Ironmace saw its game removed from Steam following allegations from Nexon that the studio, which includes developers who previously worked on Nexon, was stealing assets for the game. A new dawn came for Dark And Darker when it launched on the Epic Games Store in March, and now you can claim it for free with Legendary Status. With legendary status, you get access to High Roller Dungeons, eight more character slots, and more as you embark on an all-new cashless quest.

December 22 – 23: Wizard of Legend

Wizard of Legend

Wizard of Legend is a fast-paced dungeon crawler with rogue-like elements that emphasize dynamic magical combat. Fast movement and even faster spell use will allow you to chain spells together to unleash devastating combos against your enemies!

Wizard Of Legend has arrived to bring some old pixel roguelike fun to Epic's ongoing holiday offering. Like all games – except Return To Moria – that came before it, Wizard Of Legend is free to claim for 24 hours, but it's yours to keep once it's claimed. Follow ten stories of challenges and enemies in this fantastic top-down roguelike, learning new spells and abilities every time you reach a new level. It's one of those games that will have you saying “One more round” and before you know it, it's Christmas morning and everyone is coming down to start the festivities.

TerraTech

TerraTech is a sandbox open world adventure game where you design and build your own creations through a mix of crafting, combat and discovery. Design cars, tanks and planes from a huge library of blocks. Drain, craft and buy new parts to survive and become the best planetary prospector.

On the fourth day of giveaways, epic games for me – TerraTech. Of all the games offered so far this year, TerraTech is the most likely to occupy all your free time this Christmas season. It takes place in an open sandbox where you build your stuff and make your decisions. Even the vehicles you use are custom built from the game's building blocks. Traverse her massive world, creating as you go and battling others you meet. A game that will keep you busy for hours if you let it, and if you get it now, it's free.

Astraea: Six-sided oracles

Astrea is a DICE deckbuilding roguelike that flips the script on deck builders using dice instead of cards and a unique dual “damage” system: Purification vs Corruption. Build a dice pool strong enough to purge Astra's out-of-control corruption and save the Star System.

Day three of Epic's Holiday Deals and deck builders rejoice because today is your day. Astraea: Six-Sided Oracles is today's free game and all you have to do to claim, download and try it out is to visit its store page via the link in the box above. While a deck builder, Astrea turns the genre on its head by replacing cards with dice. Help protagonist Astrea fight against her own corruption by rolling the dice in your favor to purify her and save the star system she calls home.

December 19 – 20: Vampire Survivors

mixcollage-05-dec-2024-07-46-pm-1862.jpg

One of the hottest games of 2022, Vampire Survivors puts you in a fight for survival against hordes of enemies. A shoot 'em up roguelike, it won a slew of awards, including Best Game at BAFTA 2023.

Return to Moria finished, Vampire Survivors enter. One of the biggest and most popular indie hits of the last decade, Vampire Survivors is a two-dimensional roguelite that pits you against wave after wave of undead. You will eventually succumb to them, but that's okay. Since this is a roguelite, you'll come back stronger and with more tools at your disposal. If you've made it this far without trying out this simple yet endlessly enjoyable game, lucky you, for the next 24 hours you can claim it for free and then keep it forever.

December 12 – 19: The Lord of the Rings: The Return to Moria

mixcollage-09-dec-2024-10-43-am-5390.jpg

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a game focused on survival and crafting. Taking place after the events of the books, you are tasked with reclaiming the procedurally generated realm of Moria.

Just like in 2023, Epic kicked off its big holiday giveaway with a game that can be claimed for an entire week instead of 24 hours like most of the games that will follow it. Destiny 2 kicked off the festivities last year, and this year it is The Lord of the Rings returns to Moria that gets us on our way. It coincides with War Of Rohirrim hitting cinemas, and those who loved the film can make this Lord of the Rings themed holiday season by picking up Return To Moria for free. You can also watch all three extended cuts of the original trilogy because, well, you're supposed to do that at least once a year and time is running out.
