Valorant is one of the most popular tactical shooters out there because it's so different from the competition. Each playable character in the game, known as an agent, has their own unique set of skills that can be used to give their team an advantage.
Valorant has some incredible characters that each have their own specific role to play, but sentries are an important part of any team. Sentinel agents focus on defensive play, with an emphasis on supporting their team with intelligence, anchoring bomb sites, and preventing enemy flanks. These are all Sentinel agents in Valorant, ranked from least effective to most effective.

6
Sage

While Sage's healing and resurrection abilities can be very useful to the team, as a Sentinel her kit is limited. She has no use for flank tracking, and her slow abilities are only active for a few seconds. Enemies can simply wait for a Slow Orb to dissipate or knock down his wall to clear a path.
All of these things make Sage a weak agent when it comes to Sentinel duties, but she can be paired with another Sentinel to give the team an extra line of defense.
Basic Abilities: Barrier Orb and Slow Orb |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Healing Orb |
Heal yourself or a teammate. |
Ultimate: Resurrection |
Revive a dead ally and fully restore their health. |
5
Impasse
Deadlock can also block paths, but is transparent. That said, enemies will have to use a lot of bullets just to take him down. Her flank tracking abilities are also useful, but other Sentinels work better as enemies can sneak past hers.
Her ultimate is great for clearing an area and possibly capturing an enemy, but it's not a sure kill as they can be saved. Like Sage, Deadlock can work well when paired with another Sentinel to bolster the team's defense.
Core Abilities: Gravnet and Sonic Sensor |
|
---|---|
Signature Skill: Barrier Mesh |
Throw a disc that spawns a cross-shaped wall, blocking the path from movement. |
The last: annihilation |
Fires a Nanowire Accelerator that traps any enemy that is caught by it. The trap can be knocked down to save the victim, but if they reach the end of the wire, they perish. |
4
Vyse
Vyse has a decent kit to prevent enemies from flooding a site. Her wall that appears when an enemy stumbles is useful for isolating a careless enemy. Her ultimate is also powerful for taking or retaking an area, as it forces enemies to use weaker weapons.

That said, other Sentinels have similar abilities that provide more impact. Killjoy's ultimate also targets enemies in a large range, but hers is better because it holds them back completely. Other agents may also offer better blinds, making Vyse quite redundant.
Basic Skills: Razorvine and Shear |
|
---|---|
Signature Skill: Arc Rose |
Place a bow rose on a surface. When activated, all players who see it will be blinded. |
Ultima: The Steel Garden |
Cover an area with thorns that block the primary weapons of all enemies caught in it for a few seconds. |
3
Chamber

Chamber is a unique sentry as his kit allows him to flank the team, deal damage and teleport to better positions. His stopping power is less strong compared to other Sentinels and will require a decent aim for him to make an impact.
If the team needs a sniper to hold long positions, Chamber works great due to his ultimate and fast teleport ability. However, if enemies are paying attention and peeking into the Chamber at the same time, it can be difficult to get the necessary kill.
Core Skills: Trademark and Headhunter |
|
---|---|
Signature Skill: Rendezvous |
Place a teleport anchor on a surface. You can quickly teleport to the anchor's location while within its range. It can also be lifted and moved. |
Ultimate: Tour of the Force |
Equip a powerful sniper rifle that kills enemies hit anywhere in the upper body. The area where the killed enemy was will have a field that slows trapped players for a few seconds. |
2
Killjoy
Killjoy is an excellent Sentinel when you need an agent who can delay pushes and watch the team's flank. Her turret has the range to see from long distances, and her alarm bot not only activates on contact with the enemy, but also applies Vulnerable to them.
Her mollies can also damage or kill careless enemies. Her ultimate is also one of the most powerful in the game, affecting a large area and holding all enemies caught in its range. The only thing that keeps her from taking the top spot is that many of her utilities disable when she's out of range.
Core Abilities: Nanoswarm and Alarmbot |
|
---|---|
Signature Ability: Turret |
Place a turret that fires at enemies when spotted. |
Last: Lockdown |
Place a Lockdown device that charges up, then restrains all enemies in its range when activated. |
1
Cypher

With the increase in playstyles and aggressive agents, Cypher is definitely the best Sentinel for many reasons. His trapwire can go undetected unless an enemy is close to it, giving them a false sense of security if they decide to flood a place. It also stays active unless destroyed by the enemy, meaning it can trip enemies over and over again.
His cage not only blocks vision, but signals when an enemy is passing by. His camera also allows him to watch an area for any activity while safely hidden behind a corner. His ultimate is also incredibly powerful, pinpointing the location of every enemy on the map. When it comes to unraveling the enemy's plans and stopping their movement, Cypher is king.
Core Abilities: Trapwire and Cyber Cage |
|
---|---|
Signature Skill: Spy Camera |
Place a camera that can be activated from anywhere on the map. When enabled, you'll be able to monitor anything the camera can see. You can also shoot an arrow at an enemy you see on camera to reveal their location until the arrow is removed. |
Ultimate: Neural Theft |
Use an enemy's corpse to download the current locations of each enemy team member. |
