Marvel shouldn't miss the boat for a single character's chance in the gaming spotlight

The industry is having a bit of a Marvel revival, and a popular new character should inspire a darker gaming universe.

Although there are not a lot of details about it Daredevil: Born Again, fans previously got a pretty good look at the new costumes for Cox's Daredevil and villain Bullseye, but now there's an even better look at what the Man Without Fear will be donning for the upcoming series. As part of Marvel Studios' promotional exhibit at the recent New York Comic-Con event, fans were able to get an up-close look at Daredevil's film. Born again costumed for display on a mannequin, complete with boots, gloves and iconic mask. A few fans in attendance, such as YouTuber Brandon Davis, took to social media to post pictures and videos of the display from the show.

The Kingpin's outfit was also on display at the show, but since New York City pretty much only wears suits, fans weren't as eager to examine it. As for Daredevil's costume, he keeps much of the Netflix-era look on the headgear and makes teak elsewhere to better match the look the show's directors have in mind for the character in the MCU. Additionally, it's also different from what Cox has used in previous MCU cameos, and it's still a far cry from the kind of Daredevil look Cox has been pushing for in MCU fanart. Most notably, the suit still lacks his comic book version's iconic Daredevil emblem on the chest area, keeping it in line with previous live-action designs in that regard.

The first video preview of the suit in action made it look like Daredevil: Born Again the costume will be a good fit for the promised brutal action that has fans skeptical, and the chance for a much closer inspection seems to point to the same. Taking form over function is a pretty important part of adapting a medium like comics to live action, especially if the show is meant to appeal to an older audience with solid, solid movement and action. This will be especially important for the MCU's Daredevil, as new fans will expect that vibe from the show after acts like Captain America: Brave New World and thunder*, and Netflix-era fans will come to the series premiere with doubts about the MCU's more kid-friendly content strategy. To truly succeed, Daredevil needs to remain a mature show made for the audience it appeals to most.

Even more than tone, it's become a matter of utmost importance that Daredevil needs to remain a street-level hero in the MCU, and that includes looking like one. For better or for worse, the suit clearly looks like it belongs on a serious TV show, and will likely retain the same vibe when the Man Without Fear inevitably has to lend a helping hand to the franchise's other heroes.
