Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not meeting sales expectations
Popular RPG title Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth seems to be struggling to make money for Square Enix despite a successful launch.
However, the third and final entry in the trilogy is currently in the works and has already reached a significant milestone. During a recent appearance at the G-CON 2024 convention in South Korea, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Square Enix had conceived the plot of the third game and locked down its overall concept, marking the completion of the pre-production phase. As a result, FF7 Remake part 3 is already in active development, Kitase explained, as first reported by 4Gamer.
FF7 Remake part 3 will not “cheat” with the Highwind airship
While company officials were mostly tight-lipped about the details of the project, there was one aspect of the game that Hamaguchi was willing to discuss during his appearance at the convention: Highwind. Since Square Enix confirmed it Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 3 will feature the flagship aircraft, fans have been speculating as to how the aircraft will be implemented. Some of the more pessimistic predictions were that Highwind would simply be a stand-in for a fast travel system.
Hamaguchi has now confirmed that this will not be the case. “We're not going to cheat with the airship system,” he said, adding that the game will give players the freedom to actually fly around the map. Square Enix chose to take on this challenge in large part because Highwind would play an important role in its story Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 3which makes it crucial to allow players to experience the game world from a “higher perspective,” Hamaguchi revealed.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 3 doesn't have an official release window yet. The first entry in the remake trilogy took about five years to develop, while Renaissance it was completed in about four. The shorter development time is plausibly a result of Square Enix being able to reuse some of the FF7 Remake assets for FF7 Rebirth. Since asset creation is one of the biggest bottlenecks in modern AAA development, FF7 Remake part 3 it could be completed even faster than its predecessor, now that Square Enix has even more resources to reuse.
