Kojima Productions' upcoming horror game, O.Dwas one of the more confusing, yet interesting, projects teased by the developer. After Death Stranding and its next sequel, O.D it could be next in line as Kojima Productions' follow-up release. For now, very little is known O.D and what it entails, but Hideo Kojima has confirmed that it is a horror story.
After Kojima's Silent Hills was suddenly canceled by Konami, many were left disappointed that a horror game created by the brain behind Metal Gear it was never going to happen. However, O.D rekindles enthusiasm for a Kojima-led horror story. In typical Hideo Kojima fashion, O.D it already seems like an experimental take on the genre. So far, one of the few things known about the project is its cast. Actors Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and Udo Kier star O.Dhis disturbing first trailer, but there are also rumors that a former Kojima collaborator will play a role. Margaret Qualley played a double role in Death Strandingand if she appears in O.Dher latest movie, Substancecould serve as a great inspiration for Kojima.

Hideo Kojima could find some terrible OD inspiration in the substance
Embracing one of the best horror films of the year
Rumors of Margaret Qualley's involvement in Hideo Kojima's horror project began in 2022 after writer Tom Henderson supported the casting decision. While the game was rumored to be called “Overdose” at the time, the shortening to O.D might lend some weight to Henderson's claims. It's no secret that Kojima is a big pop culture lover. From film to music, he has been heavily inspired by many works. He also seems to pay close attention to the work of the actors he collaborates with, and Margaret Qualley has made waves this year, boasting three different projects.
- Dolls driving cars
- Kinds of kindness
- Substance
While her other two performances were great, her role as Sue in Substance it really stood out. The gory satire is full of intense body horror that Kojima would probably have a field day with. Based on the trailer for O.Dit looks like the game might lean into more psychological territory, but there's no telling what Kojima has in store. Depending on how far the psychological aspects are pushed, O.D he could still lend himself to a lot of body horror through hallucinations. Either way, Hide Kojima's love of pop culture and admiration for the actors he works with means he's probably seen it Substanceand if so, it could easily become a powerful source of horror inspiration.

OD remains mysterious but compelling
Almost a year has passed since then O.D has been announced and still very little is known about the game. As the wait continues, Kojima will hopefully shed more light on his horror project soon. With The Game Awards upon us, there's always the chance for a surprise update, but only time will tell.
