How to beat Rollo and Lila in Ys X: Nordics

Throughout the game of Ys X: Nordicsyou'll hear Rollo's name very frequently, making it pretty obvious that he'll be the final boss you're going up against. However, Rollo's true identity is quite surprising, with his partner joining him at the end against Adol and Karja.

Ys X: Nordics – All Carnac Villagers Locations

If you want to see Sandra come to life in Ys X: Nordics, you'll need to explore around and find various villagers in Carnac.

This won't be the first boss battle where you'll be fighting two boss enemies at the same time, but it will be much more challenging than the others. You will need to do some preparation if you want to have a chance to win this.

Rollo and Lila Phase One Guide

While most boss fights in Ys X: Nordics have hard phases where the enemy gets some new attacks, the phases in the fight against Rollo and Lila are very clearly defined with a scene in between. The first phase is when the boss doesn't start with a durability bar and goes all the way until you reduce their HP to 20 percent.

Throughout this battle, Rollo and Lila will share an HP bar that you can see at the top and this the bar will lose HP and durability when you attack any of them. Here are the attacks you can expect from them in this phase:

Speed attacks	Lilac	Throughout the battle, Lila will stay at the edge of the battlefield and constantly launch speed attacks at you. These may include some projectiles in the form of spikes that are launched in turn or a wave on earth. This wave is released in an arc-shaped pattern. It is recommended to keep an eye on these attacks like avoiding them can serve as a good way to deal high damage.
Slash attacks	Rollo	During the start of the battle, Rollo will usually swing his ax at the charactermaking you some easy parasites. After two hits, he jumps up a bit and slams his hammer into the ground.
Red Attack	Rollo	You will also see Rollo jump high in the air with a red aura and fast slams the ground again with a much higher AoE than normal slash attacks.
Wind attack	Rollo	In this attack, Rollo rises into the air again with a green aura around the ax and then rush to the groundconstantly swinging the weapon.
Spin Attack	Rollo	When you are away from Rollo, he will charge his ax for a moment and then cmen at you as you swing the axe around his body.

Frostbite will be yours best friend for this fight as it can significantly increase damage output.

The first phase of the battle against Rollo and Lila will already keep you on your toes as you will be met with a constant barrage of attacks. For this battle, it's important to remember that protecting yourself is more important. Focus on building a revenge gauge and preventing damage instead of trying to attack all the way through and deal low damage.

Rollo and Lila Phase Two Guide

Once you get their collective HP to about 20%, you can trigger a cutscene that leads to Rollo getting a mask on his face. while Lila has some shields around her, making it hard to hold her down in battle. This change also brings some new attacks while improving some of the old ones:

Blue blind	Lilac	As Lila moves onto the battlefield, she can sometimes spawn a large blue orb that moves towards your active character. You can easily par this globe to get a revenge indicator.
Constant attacks	Lilac	At the beginning of this phase, Lila gives birth to several entities in the air that constantly fire fast projectiles at your characteressentially serving as a third enemy that you can't attack.
Improved red attack	Rollo	After slamming his hammer into the ground as a normal red attack, Rollo will then launch a speed attack right after, with waves of blue ground surrounding him. Avoiding this attack triggers a cutscene dealing massive damage to the boss.
Rollo's ship	Rollo	From this phase, Rollo can summon an entire ship onto the battlefield that moves quickly in the direction he is facing after a small delay. The best course of action to avoid this attack is just coming off the front of the ship.
Grab Attack	Rollo	Sometimes you'll see Rollo's arm glow green as he moves towards your active character. If it successfully catches you, it will launch yourself into the air and perform a slash which causes great damage.

The second phase is essentially an addition to the battle where the game presents you with more boss moves, but the phase already ends when you remove their durability bar. It's important to pay attention to your surroundings, as you'll hardly have a moment where you won't be attacked.

Rollo and Lila Phase Three Guide

As you remove Rollo and Lila's first durability bar, another scene will trigger and they will be completely they gain their health with another durability bar at the end of it. This is where the real battle begins, as the first two phases were simply to get you used to what you should expect. In this phase, Rollo and Lila will give it their all.

This means not only faster attacks, but also some new ones you haven't seen still:

Clone Attack	Rollo	As soon as the end phase begins, Rollo will summon up to four clones around him which run towards you and attack in turns. You can parry the first of these attacks, but it is recommended that you avoid the rest. This is mainly due to Rollo can start performing other attacks as these clones attack you.
Lightning strikes	Lilac	While Rollo launches his clones and then probably a ship at you, Lila will perform a summon attack where you will see circles on the ground. When these circles fill, there will be lightning in the location.
Double attack	Rollo and Lila	After removing their durability bar in this phase, there will be another scene followed by a double attack where the two prepare a giant orb and then launch it across the battlefield. This will knock you down first and then summon lightning all around and it is important to try to avoid or parry them as possible.
Ground wave	Rollo	Sometimes you'll see Rollo slam his fist into the ground and it will deal damage in one large triangular shape in front by him shortly thereafter.
Attack Whirlpool	Lilac	When the duo receives the second bar of durability in this phase, Lila will create a vortex in the middle of the battlefield that attracts youmaking you an easy target.

This is the longest stage of the three and also the most difficult. Up until now you were getting one attack from Rollo and Lila each, but now I can both perform multiple attacks at the same time. Once again, the idea is to avoid as many attacks as possible while building Frostbite on your primary target to deal damage.

It is highly recommended that you stock up on some healing and removal of paralysis items for this battle as well.
