How to customize your HUD
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 made some major additions that fans have been asking for for years. Theater Mode is back, Classic Prestige makes a triumphant return, and the in-game HUD can now be adjusted to suit your preferences. Move the minimap to a different location, hide certain HUD elements, or disable it entirely.

The grind is already underway.
Although it's a powerful tool, it's buried in the options menu and not explained in detail. In this guide, we'll cover how to access HUD customization in Black Ops 6, give a brief explanation of how each setting works, and list our recommended settings for Multiplayer and Zombies. We also feature all ten HUD skins.
How to customize your HUD
Virtually every element of your heads-up display (HUD) can be adjusted from Interface tab in the options menu. Once there, go to the “Gameplay HUD” tab to check out all of your HUD options. There are dozens of options in this tab, but the most important one you should focus on is HUD presets. If you don't see this option, you'll need to enter a match or lobby before the game to adjust your preset.
Ignoring the presets for a moment, here's everything you can change:
HUD limits |
Sets the borders for HUD elements. You can shrink it to squeeze items together. |
---|---|
Mini map form |
Set the minimap to be round or square. Square offers more information with the price of screen space. |
Mini map rotation |
Rotates the minimap when you look around. We suggest you leave this. |
Radar |
Removes 2D map information from the minimap, making it easier to see enemy markings. Visually it looks similar to Halo and Destiny. |
Compass type |
Show cardinal direction and nearest POI on HUD. It can be displayed as a horizontal bar (MW2019), on top of the minimap, or it can be disabled permanently. |
Widget visibility |
Adjust the opacity of most HUD elements (ammo, equipment, score, et cetera). These values are related to the selected HUD preset. |
HUD Aspects
The biggest change in Call of Duty this year is the addition of HUD aspects. A HUD skin reorganizes your entire in-game display, moving your minimap, compass, ammo gauges, and more. This is a radical change from previous CoD titles where these elements were always static. If you want your minimap to be at the bottom of your HUD or remove ammo prompts entirely, you now can.
Since launch, there is ten layout configurations with which you can experiment. Each skin changes elements of your HUD, which you can then further customize through mini-maps and visibility adjustments. You cannot personally move any HUD elements; Only your HUD layout determines the position of each widget. For example, if you want a minimap at the bottom of your HUD, you need to use a layout with a minimap anchored at the bottom.

Minimum map settings
You may have noticed that not all minimaps look the same in the HUD layout above. That's because minimap settings you can adjust in the “Gameplay HUD” tab. There are five options worth adjusting:
- Mini map form: Set the borders of the minimap to be either a circle or a square.
-
Minimap rotation: Rotate the minimap with your character.
-
Disabled: The minimap background remains static. Your player icon is moving.
-
On (default): the minimap background moves. The player icon remains static.
-
- Minimum map size: It's self-explanatory. Larger minimaps do not provide more information; everything expands.
-
Minimum Map Opacity: Determines how transparent your minimap is. Smaller values are easier to see.
-
Set this to zero to remove your minimap completely.
-
- Radar: Removes map information from the minimap, making it easier to track enemies.
You must be in the “HUD Presets” menu to adjust the size and opacity of the minimap.
What might come out of that list is Radara new feature that allows you to remove all map information from the minimap. This leaves it as a grayscale interface that only displays information about players and objectives. Yes not change how your minimap actually works, but it can be useful for more experienced players who don't need map information at a glance.
Many players will also gravitate towards increasing the size of the minimap. While this can be useful if you're sitting far from the display, it's useful not provides additional information. A minimap at 80% scale provides the same information as a minimap at 150% scale. If you want a more detailed minimap, you'll need to use the Forward Intel perk. Having said that, a the square minimap do what give a little more information than a circle minimap.
Visual adjustments
Beyond the minimap settings, you can also adjust the opacity of your HUD widgets. This is consolidated information such as your ammo meter, gear loads, medals and kill stream. Reducing any of these settings will make the widget more transparent. If you set any of them to zero, the item will be completely removed from the HUD.
If you want a cleaner HUD, try turning off Medals, Player Toasts and Score Feed.
Interface colors
Color filters are back in Black Ops 6 and retain the same functionality. You can adjust the color palette of the interface and inject color overlays into the game itself. The HUD Color Palette drop-down menu allows you to change the color profile of your interface, including options for most color-blind conditions.
Below the interface options are some color filter settings. This applies to the game itself, applying a color filter to everything. If you find the game a bit too grey, try Filter 2 with a low Intensity value (30-50%).
Recommended HUD settings
I prefer to have most HUD elements close together in FPS titles, so I recommend Target tracker as a baseline. This moves all critical information to the bottom of the HUD, including the minimap. Having it so low on the screen might seem jarring at first, but it cleans up the screen a lot once you get used to it.
With a minor tweak, this also makes a great Zombies HUD. Before starting a match, set the opacity of the minimap to zero.
For more specific options, set minimap to 60% opacity and use a minimap compass. This removes the compass from the bottom of the screen while the minimap blends in more with the background. I turn off the radar as I prefer to have map information but feel free to keep it as is. You can clear more screen by disabling Player Medals and toastsalthough this is not mandatory.
