Throughout the game world in Obsidian Interactive Groundedplayers will find various powerful items to craft, including unique weapon and armor sets, resulting in a variety of unique builds to suit every possible playstyle. Fire Ant Armor pieces are some of the most powerful pieces of equipment in the game, but also some of the hardest to acquire. When equipped, they will give players 20% damage reduction, +10 defense and 5% resistance. The armor is particularly powerful due to its corrosive effects, which give players several unique acid effects when attacking while wearing the armor.
How to unlock fire ant armor recipes
Like most of the unique weapons and armor in the Groundedplayers can craft the fire ant armor at a workbench, which can be built anywhere. However, a workbench is not enough. First, players will need to unlock the recipe for each piece. This can be done by taking the unique components of an item and Analyzing them at a research base.
Each piece of equipment has its own required material that must be analyzed to unlock item crafting. The fire ant helmet will require a fire ant head to be analyzed, the chest plate will require mandibles, and for the leg plates a simple fire ant piece. Once each piece has been analyzed, players will be able to craft each item after gathering the necessary materials for crafting.
How to craft armor for fire ants
Each piece of armor will need to be built separately, and the requirements vary slightly for different parts of the armor. Once the materials have been gathered and analyzed, simply go to a basic workbench and the items will appear available for crafting. The list of crafting materials for each item in the armor set is as follows:
- Helmet Fire Ant – 1x Fire Ant Head, 2x Fire Ant Parts, 2x Lint Rope.
- Fire Ant Plate – 2x Fire Ant Parts, 1x Fire Ant Mandible, 2x Lint Rope.
- Fire ant legs – 2x Fire Ant Pieces, 1x Dust Mite Fuzz, 2x Lint Rope.
Each piece can be crafted individually, so you don't need to collect all the crafting materials for all the items if you just want to increase the helmet, for example. A fair amount of travel and preparation can be required, as the areas players will have to go to in order to obtain crafting materials are particularly dangerous.
Where to find fire ant armor crafting materials
It goes without saying that for the most part, players will need to seek out and defeat Fire Ants; however, there are certain details to be aware of when hunting for these materials. Fire ant workers will drop either fire ant parts or a fire ant head, while fire ant mandibles must be taken from a stronger soldier ant.
The best place to find both variants is to head to the Fire Ant nest, but beware it's one of the hardest areas in the game to survive. In addition to these materials, Dust Mite Fuzz can also be found by killing dust mites at the bottom of the shed. Lint string can usually be found on the shed mat and insulation.
