In Frostpunk 2it is labor that does the work. With enough people in your workforce, you'll be able to build new buildings and neighborhoods, as well as new frost zones. Of course, Frostpunk 2 is not an easy game, so you may find yourself without enough people in your workforce from time to time.
In this guide, we'll take a look at how you can increase your workforce in Frostpunk 2. This will cover attracting more people to your city in general, lowering your workforce limits, and transferring your workforce between colonies under your control
How to see your total workforce
To see the total workforce, head to the top left of the screen. Here, you can see your total population as well the total number of people in your workforce.
When you hover over these numbers, you'll be able to see a full breakdown of what your population is doing Using the image above, you can see that we have an available workforce of 12,280 people. This means we can comfortably use workers without running out.
You will even be able to see exactly how labor is divided between everything in your city, up to how many people work at any prisons you have built.
How to get new workers
The best way to get new workers is to have them move to your city. This can happen periodically, but you can also find them in Frostland. As you explore, you can find small communities around the map that are willing to move to the city; if you need workers then great!
When accepting new people, it is important to consider housing and food. While more people in your workforce is great, it might accidentally cause some tension due to lack of resources and living space. This can be quickly remedied by adding new housing or food districts.
If there are no groups of people in your immediate area of Frostland,
consider exploring new regions.
When you hover over unexplored areas, you can see possible findings, with
Inhabitants of frost zones
being an option.
Weather station
In Frosttland, you can also find a weather station. This acts as a beacon, as people will be able to see it from a distance. When the weather station is active, you will have increased population growth. Remember that the station requires some frostland teams to remain active (you'll also be able to turn it off).
How to create a new workforce from your existing population
It is also possible to adjust the percentage of active workers in your city For example, by proposing and adopting The Law of Discipleship in the Family, the labor force will increase slightly. This is because children in your town will start working alongside adult relatives, adding to the percentage of active workers.
Family apprenticeships aren't the only way to increase the workforce. Another step you can take is to research on the Youth node of the Society tab in the Tree of Ideas. This will give you to choose between The decent youth and the liberated youth, which offers the following benefits.
The decent youth |
The Liberated Youth |
---|---|
The percentage of active workers has increased Crime has fallen slightly Youth Volunteer Tasks Unlocked Capacity (Strengthens Workforce and Lowers Confidence) |
Confidence grows Unlocks Youth Employment Program ability (strengthens workforce and lowers Heatstamp income) |
Both ideas will increase manpower through a city skill, but with Dutiful Youth, you can keep the worker count up without implementing any skills.
You can also
Communal Parenthood research
(on the Parenthood node in the Society tab), which will
significantly increases the total percentage of active workers.
How to reduce labor requirements
Doing things in Frostpunk 2 requires a certain amount of people, but what if that amount could be reduced? The good news is that this is possible! A possible law you can pass is Car attendants. This will reduce labor requirements, as the machines will be optimized to run.
You can also enable machine-centric exchanges, which will also reduce labor requirements. Remember that this will increase and messwhich may not be ideal if you are dealing with a litter problem in your city.
Take care of sick and injured workers
When your workers are injured or sick, they will no longer be part of the active labor force. While it may recover and not have much of an effect on the workforce, high levels of sickness can really take their toll.
If your city suffers from a high rate of disease, consider solving this to get more workers. By hovering over the disease icon in the center of the screen, you can check what causes the disease rate to be high; two leading factors may be dirt and cold.
How to outsource your workforce
If you have a lot of workers in your main city, but not enough in a colony, you can transfer your workforce between locations. This is great if your main city has a lot of workers you don't need, while your colonies are struggling to find enough people.
To transfer workers, head to the top right of the screen. Here, you can click on the colony and see three icons, with the middle one similar to a group of people having arrows going both ways.
By clicking on it, you will be able to ttransfer people between your cities. The slider will show the total number of people as well as how many people in the workforce it includes. This is one a good way to spread your population.
Build an air transport hub
By researching and building an air transport hub, you can too reducing the need for labor in nearby areas. This is a great way to free up some workers to use in other areas of the city, but it's important to note that the building has a demand for heat and materials, so it's best to turn it off when you don't need extra workers.
The bare air transport alone is not enough to strengthen the workforce, but when associated with other methods in this list, you will have a decent amount of active workers to complete the tasks in the city.
Adjust workforce in existing districts
Finally, you can adjust the efficiency of a district to free up some workers for another task. For example, if you don't have enough people to break an area, you can temporarily lower the percentage slider to create more active workers for breaking the freeze.
This is also a great way to reduce resource demand within the district, which can be handy if you face a shortage of something. In general, not every district may need to run at maximum efficiency, therefore be sure to play with these sliders to find the perfect spot.
