Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood slowly introduces players to the game's combat, periodically giving you new attacks as you progress through many of the game's early islands. Immediately after the battle, players will be entered into the HP and MP bars, HP being the health of each brother who must stay awake or they will be eliminated.

BP is also used in combat, though it is used to activate special attacks known as Bros. Attacks, which will also be continuously unlocked as you progress through the game. Both of these stats are very important to keep up while exploring the islands, unlike Stache, which focuses solely on combat; here's how to restore both.

How to recover HP/BP in Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood

The easiest way to restore your HP and BP is by hitting a restore blockwhich appears as a rainbow colored block with a pink heart on the face. These blocks can be hit as many times as you like, fully restoring both HP and BP at no cost. These jams are fairly common in the early game, though they will become less common in favor of more reliable healing methods.

Some villages and even Shapeshift Island, as you progress through the story, will have restoration tents. Both the restoration tents and the blocks are marked on the map with the same thing icon that looks like a restore block. These can be rested to restore your HP and BP just like a restore block. The other most common method of restoring both HP and BP is healing items. For the most part, there are different items that are used for HP and BP, with a few covering both.

Restoration items such as mushrooms and jars of syrup are found by hitting blocks on various islands, dropped from enemies, or purchased from general stores. General stores are marked with a mushroom icon on the map and all sell restoration items at the same cost, with an infinite amount of anything being sold.

If you run out of BP, all that happens is that you can't use special attacks. If a brother's HP reaches zero, he will be eliminated. If both brothers are eliminated you will end a game, and if this happens long enough you can change the difficulty of the game. If a sibling is still awake, you can use a 1-Up Mushroom or 1-Up DX to revive that brother with either 50% of max HP or 100% HPrespectively.
