How to move platform in Ravenholm

Halfway through the “We're Not Going to Ravenholm” chapter of Half-Life 2Gordon Freeman is forced to escape the ambush at Eli's Scrapyard and make his way through the strange town of Ravenholm. The houses in this town are laden with traps and zombies roam the streets, making progress through this chapter even scarier.

Even after players get past unexpected traps and infinite swarms of zombies, they often find themselves stuck unable to move a certain platform to access rooftops. This platform puzzle can be particularly difficult to solve because the associated lever blends perfectly with the environment. If you're stuck fighting off hordes of zombies while trying to figure out how to move the rig in this macabre city, this guide should help.

How to move the stationary platform in Ravenholm?

Halfway through the chapter, you'll reach a dead end with zombies ambushing you from all directions. The only way to escape these undead creatures is to reach the higher ground and traverse along the raised eaves. However, you will soon reach the end of a ledge where you are required to move a platform to cross a large gap and onto the rooftops. Here are the steps to find and access the lever to move said platform:

  • After you reach the dead end, look for a checkpoint on your right and bypass it to access the stairs that give you access to the upper level of the station.
  • The control station also includes a viewing balcony that allows you to observe the road from below. The lever that controls the platform is on this viewing balcony.
  • Once you are on the viewing balcony, look for the lever on the far left and at the foot. The reason why you are most likely to overlook this lever is because of its color choice, which makes it appear as one of the support rods for the balcony fence.
  • Interacting with this lever moves the platform along the suspension wire, allowing you to cross the gap and progress through the town of Ravenholm.

The feeling of being seemingly stuck in a street with zombies appearing endlessly also adds to the anxiety of having to find the lever as quickly as possible, which can cause you to lose focus and lose sight of your surroundings. However, once the lever is activated, you can breathe a sigh of relief as the path ahead is linear and there are no more puzzles to solve for the rest of the chapter.

“We're not going to Ravenholm” is one of the creepiest chapters in Half-Life 2featuring a ghost town that is overrun by nature and inhabited by creepy creatures. This chapter also offers plenty of opportunities to get the most out of the Gravity Gun. You can actually unlock the Zombie Chopper achievement by playing the entire chapter while only using the Gravity Gun.
