How to plant and harvest rice

Rice is one of the new crops introduced in Farming Simulator 25but it's mostly intriguing because it offers a whole new experience when you want to plant and harvest it. The culture has some specific requirements to grow and can be a little confusing if you're not sure what to do at first.

Rice is also one of the most profitable crops you can grow Farming Simulator 25so many players will want to plant and harvest it as soon as possible. However, you will need specialized equipment and a little patience to grow this crop properly. So, here's everything you need to know about planting and harvesting rice.

How to plant and grow rice

The first thing you'll want to do before trying to grow rice is to make sure you have the right equipment to do so. You need everything you normally do – like a tractor and trailer – to plant and harvest crops, except for the specialized rice harvester and rice planter. These can both be found in the Special Crops section under Vehicles in the shop. Then of course you have to buy rice seedlings or you can grow them yourself in a greenhouse.

Build a rice field

Once you have your equipment, you will need a large open space to plant your rice. Then you need to build a rice field, which you can find under Cultivation in the Build menu. Once your field is built, you can proceed to the next step.

Flood the Field

Next, go to the water pump that was placed with the rice and the field and flood it. This is the most important part of the process, because if the water level in the field drops, the seedlings will wither and die – causing you to lose all your progress. Fortunately, rice only takes four months to grow, so you only have to do this for a short time before the seedlings mature and are ready to harvest.

Plant the rice

Take your plant and load the rice seedlings along with the fertilizer, then plant them in the paddy until it is full. Rice can be planted in April and May, but you can also turn off the seasons in the game settings so you can plant it anytime of the year if you want.

Manage the water level

Rice grows in four stages and each one needs a different level of water to grow properly. Fortunately, the water pump will not allow an inappropriate choice for the growth stage the rice is at. You just have to make sure every day that the field has the correct water levels.

How to harvest rice

Once the crop turns yellow, it has matured and you can begin the harvesting process. Take the special harvester and get in, start it and start harvesting the rice row by row. When finished, make sure your trailer is behind the harvester to grab it from the pipe.

Rice sells for around $3300 and you can find outlets that accept rice by going to the pricing screen in the menu. Once there, scroll down until you find rice and click on it. This data will indicate which outlets accept rice, but also which will offer the best prices for it. Take your trailer full of rice to the point of sale and you will have successfully grown and sold your first batch in Farming Simulator 25.
