The greatest swordsman in One Piece is overrated

Mihawk is known as One Piece's greatest swordsman. Is it overrated?

In the case of Zoro, fans know that he wants to become the greatest swordsman in the world, but it is not easy for him to accomplish this task. In order for him to become the greatest swordsman in the world, Zoro will have to defeat none other than Dracula Mihawk, the current greatest swordsman in the world. Having already fought Mihawk once and felt what true power feels like, Zoro knows he has a long way to go. The good thing is that since then, Zoro has improved tremendously in combat and developed a unique strength that will make him hold his own against Mihawk. But, he still needs that final push, and it could come in the form of his left eye, which has been closed since the time jump.

Zoro's current level and power difference compared to Mihawk

  • Zoro is stronger than most Yonko commanders
  • Zoro's power will improve

Currently, Zoro is definitely stronger than most of his early Yonko peers. In the Wano Country Arc, Zoro took major hits and received several power-ups. His first start and bow came through Enma, which took him a week to learn the basics. It can be said that once the Onigashima War Arc began, Zoro did not have perfect control over Enma. But, he managed to use it pretty well, at least. It wasn't until the fight against the King that Zoro was finally able to tap into his true powers and use them to unleash his latent Haki. Enma's power to draw Ryuo from the user's body meant that Zoro's latent conqueror Haki was used and he was finally awakened. He was able to channel it through his blades.

Zoro finally got access to the advanced Conqueror's Haki and was able to infuse it incredibly well, albeit only for a very short time. In this fight, Zoro was able to make quick work of King and then save his power for another day.

After the events of the Wano Country arc, Zoro probably strengthened his control over Enma even more. This is especially true because fans know that Zoro is always training and making sure he reaches the next level with each passing day. In Egghead, Zoro was seen fighting the likes of Lucci, and while this fight was short-lived and didn't come to a proper conclusion, Zoro definitely had the upper hand.

It can be said that at this moment One pieceZoro is easily among the strongest characters, having already defeated the likes of King. The only characters above him are the Admirals, the Yonko, and of course a select few like Ben Beckman, Rayleigh, and Loki among other characters. There are definitely many characters in One Piece who are still stronger than Zoro, which means he still has some way to go. Despite Zoro possessing powerful abilities such as Conqueror's Haki Infusion and being a master swordsman, he is still not on Mihawk's level. He still needs to improve in some way or form, and his next power might come through his left eye.

Why Zoro's eye will be the key to defeating Mihawk

Oda teased Zoro's eye being his great power

Mihawk hunted

The mystery of Zoro's left eye has been absolutely massive since the post-time eye. The weirdest part is that Oda didn't even address Zoro's eye injury once he got back from the tipskip, and that's pretty weird considering Oda is always paying attention to details. This simply means that there is something bigger around Zoro's eye that fans don't know about. This becomes even more believable when you consider that Oda had planned for Zoro to close his left eye around 1997 to 1999. For those who don't know, this is the same time that One piece actually started serialization and was in its early stages. Back then, Oda had already told Watsuki, his mentor, that Zoro would continue to close his eyes. In 2021, Watsuki asked Oda again about Zoro's eye, but Oda refused to give him the answer. This goes on to imply that there is a great secret surrounding Zoro's eye, which could be directly related to his power.

Naturally, fans would wonder how Zoro's eye could help him defeat Mihawk. As things stand, Zoro needs two major powers. The first major skill that Zoro must acquire is to be able to improve his control over Conqueror's Haki. At this point, Zoro cannot maintain his Conqueror's Haki for long.

Luffy's reward will only increase in the final saga. His next bounty in One Piece might be after Elbaf.

After a few minutes his body will run out of Haki and die. This is something Zoro explicitly confirmed in Wano. This essentially means that Zoro will have to improve his power dramatically and learn to emit Haki in just a few moments, or at least improve his Haki pool to be able to last in long fights.

Besides that, Zoro would need something to push him to the level of the Four Emperors and be strong enough to defeat the likes of Mihawk. This is where his left eye could come into play, and fans know that his left eye could be related to his demonic powers, which Zoro has already displayed several times, such as when he displayed Ashura in One Piece .

Zoro vs Mihawk will happen soon

Zoro's last power up is likely to enter One piece it will come when he opens his left eye. This could be in the fight against Mihawk, and after opening his eye, Zoro could unleash the true demonic powers within him. It's no surprise to know that Zoro has a demonic aura. There were people in the Enies Lobby Arch who could sense Zoro's demonic aura, and even Kaku could see Zoro manifesting a demon-like entity with just his willpower. Fans know that Asura exists as an extension of Zoro's demonic will and have already seen her used in battle many times, most recently against Kaido.
