Kishimoto just revealed a new Wood Style user

Wood Style is one of the most powerful abilities that exist in Naruto universe. This ability was properly introduced during the battle between Hiruzen Sarutobi and Orochimaru. It was the latter who used Edo Tensei to bring back the First and Second Hokage, the former using the incredible power of Wood Release. Without a doubt, Wood Release was an ability that many considered to be the pinnacle of ninjutsu, but that certainly didn't mean it was unmatched. That being said, his powers are definitely awesome, especially when used by the First Hokage.

One strange thing about Wood Release is that there haven't been many users of this power over the years. Although there seems to be another user in the Borutofans haven't seen his powers at all. Now, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortexit seems that yet another Wood Release power user has been revealed.

The Power of Wood Release and Hashirama's Legacy

Wood Release is a very powerful Kekkei Genkai and it's pretty easy for fans to see that it could be the most powerful of all time. This ability sees the use of Water Release with Earth Release, and then these two natural elements are combined together, which gives rise to Wood Release. Of course, this does not mean that any ninja user who possesses Water Release and Earth Release can use Wood Release. In order to use Wood Release, you must have the inherent abilities to produce this jutsu. The first person that fans knew could use Wood Release was Hashirama Senju. To this day, Hashirama remains the best user of Wood Release that fans have seen.

Only one man could use his powers – The First Hokage!!

With the power of Wood Release, Hashirama could control the vegetation around him. He could sprout forests out of nowhere and completely change the terrain around him. Wood Release was also incredibly effective against almost any type of elemental power, and above all, this power was used to suppress the power of the Tailed Beasts as well. Due to his innate ability to drain chakra, Wood Release was able to control the Tailed Beasts and suppress their destructive nature, as seen several times throughout the series.

Seeing the incredible powers of Wood Release, it was no surprise that Konoha wanted more Wood Release users. Of course, this was not to be as this ability was unfortunately not inherited by any of Hashirama's descendants. That said, experimentation continued with the Wood Release and Hashirama cells, which eventually led to the birth of Yamato. Yamato's wooden launch was pretty weak, and while it certainly helped keep the Nine Tails in check to a certain level, it couldn't do much beyond that. As for the fight, it was a shameful comparison to Hashirama Senju, which didn't make it special at all.

Other than Hashirama, the only good users of Wood Release that fans have seen in the story are Obito and Madara Uchiha. Both people had access to Wood Release through Hashirama's cells. It was Madara who tore out a piece of Hashirama's flesh during the final battle at the Valley of the End and then cultivated it in his hideout. He eventually gave birth to these cells which he implanted not only into his own body, but also used them to create Obito's missing half of his body. Of course, this gave rise to Obito being able to use Wood Release, and Madara himself being able to use this power as well.

In the case of the latter, the power has been amplified to a whole new degree. He used Deep Forest Emergence in the Fourth Great Ninja War and could have almost annihilated the entire Shinobi force with it, if it wasn't for Naruto Uzumaki. It can be said that in terms of destructive powers, Madara's version of Wood Release was almost as effective as Hashirama's.

Fast forward many years, Madara Uchiha is dead, as are Hashirama and Obito. There shouldn't be any Wood Release users left in the story, other than Yamato, and maybe people like Orochimaru, who continued to cultivate this power. But now, Boruto series introduced fans to another user of Wood Release, as hinted at Boruto: TBV chapter 17. This user is none other than Matsuri, one of the Shinju. Matsuri is incredibly dangerous, and as hinted in the previous chapter of the story, she can sense the trees around her.

There are trees everywhere, even under the Earth! – Matsuri

Matsuri is a sensory type, which is special among Shinju. As fans recall, Hashirama was a sensor-type ninja, and this was largely due to his ability to use Wood Release and Sage Mode. Matsuri stated in the previous chapter that she can sense the trees under the Earth and everywhere else. She can locate almost anyone anywhere through these trees, and this is a clear indication that she is also a Wood Release user.

This comes as no surprise to fans considering that Matsuri is a Shinju based on Moegi. As fans know, Moegi is a very strong user of Earth and Water Release and stated in another databook that he can also use Wood Release. Unfortunately, she hasn't used this power yet, but hopefully she will continue to do so eventually. Through Matsuri, however, it was essentially confirmed that Moegi is also a Wood Release user, as Matsuri should not have access to this power without her parent body having it.

How powerful is Matsuri?

So far, Matsuri's Wood Release has not been seen in Boruto series. She used Earth Release, but her other abilities remain to be seen. What fans do know is that she is a very good sensor-type ninja, but other than that, her proficiency with Wood Release remains unknown. That being said, considering she is a product of Ten-Tails, who fans know is a Wood Release user, her skill level should be very high. In fact, her Wood Release control might even be greater than Moegi's and possibly even Hashirama Senju's. This shouldn't come as a surprise to fans considering it's an overpowered Shinju that can continue to destroy the planet. Of course, fans will definitely see more of her in battle against the likes of Konohamaru soon enough, and when that happens, the true extent of her wood-releasing powers will be revealed for all to see.

As things stand, it is impossible for anyone to defeat Matsuri in battle, but one way or another, the ninjas will have to deal with this massive threat with the power to use Wood Release, or the Earth will face with its inevitable assortment.
