He comes to take on more responsibility as the story progresses, but even when facing deadly threats like Coyote Starrk, Kyoraku's laziness tends to get the better of him at the worst times.

As Kenpachi throws everything he has at Gremmy and is even forced to unleash his Bankai, which takes a huge toll on his body, Gremmy stays in one spot for most of the fight. He was even able to summon a meteor just by imagining it to exist. Fortunately, Gremmy was given this unique power, as his lazy personality certainly wouldn't have been compatible with any kind of sword fighting.

4 Coyote Starrk

It's ironic that out of all of Aizen's Espada, Starrk is the one who takes the #1 spot in terms of power level, as he also happens to be the most laid back and lazy of the bunch. When Starrk is forced to face Kyoraku during the Fake Karakura Town arc, he seems less bothered by the captain standing in front of him and constantly tells Kyoraku that he would rather avoid the fight if he can.

The truth is that Starrk possessed such a staggering amount of Spirit Pressure that it meant any Hollow that even came close to him would be killed, forcing him into isolation when he was young. As a result, Starrk has become quite used to lazing around and watching the world go by, despite being one of Aizen's most powerful underlings.

5 Marechiyo Omaeda

Omaeda's lazy personality often clashes with his serious and stoic captain

Although Omaeda starts pulling his weight a little later in the series, for the first few arcs, he is mostly characterized as a burden to his captain Soi Fon due to his lazy nature and obsession with potato chips. Askin may be a high-ranking member of the Schutzstaffel, but that doesn't necessarily mean he always tries his best in battle. Later in the Thousand Year Blood War, Yoruichi even comments that Askin is holding back his power on purpose and is just playing with the loot. If his picnic baskets and coffee machines are anything to go by, Askin would rather sit and enjoy some delicious snacks, which he does for much of the first half of the final arc.
