What to expect from the upcoming seasons of Marvel Rivals

In addition to assuring that the game is in the process of receiving various quality-of-life updates, bug fixes, and overhauls, creative director Guangguang confirmed that the game will maintain a tick rate of 60 servers while operating in multiple new regions. Players will be able to select their preferred server for lower ping and faster matchmaking. Moreover, he stated that Marvel Rivals would feature a starting group of 33 heroes and villains.

The game's December release will coincide with the release of Season 0, officially called “Doom's Rise.” This season's title is named after the main antagonist of the hero shooter, Dr. Doom, who plays a critical role in the narrative, especially due to his involvement in the “Time Experiments”. With Marvel RivalsMap-specific storylines set as ever-evolving over time and potentially expanding upon Dr. Doom's motifs, Season 0 marks the beginning of the game's promising future.

Aimed as a mini-season, Season 0 will have a one-month lifespan. This should not only help ease players into the game, but also allow the developers to address any major pain points before diving in fully. Regardless, during this period, NetEase Games will introduce the following:

  • 33 heroes
  • 8 maps for Quick Match and Competitive modes
  • A map of conquest
  • A new range of training
  • A shortened battle pass

Conquest in Marvel Rivals is a variant of Team Deathmatch. It is currently the only mode that does not adhere to 6v6.

Afterwards, Season 1, the first full season, will debut in early January. Seasons after that will be shaped similarly to this one, lasting around three months each and introducing new heroes, team abilities, maps, and occasionally new game modes. With Marvel Comics hosting a large number of locations, future map options for Marvel Rivals seem infinite. It has not been confirmed if multiple characters, like those from Season 0, will be released simultaneously or if only one hero will be introduced in each season.

Despite Marvel Rivals adopting a live-service model with a battle pass track, the development team noted that there would be no “pay-to-win” schemes. Additionally, due to the brevity of Season 0, the corresponding Battle Pass will be sold accordingly, although no price has been specified. Reaching different levels will yield skins, avatars, sprays, currency and more.

As the game nears the end of its development cycle, more details about Marvel Rivalsthe post release program should be available. This will likely go deep into features including but not limited to new heroes, competitive play, if cross-progression will be optimized for Marvel Rivalsand the in-game store. We hope NetEase Games will continue their effective communication in the days leading up to the game's release.
