Marvel RivalsThe journey to launch may not have been a long one, but it sure was eventful. Swinging out the gate, Marvel RivalsThe March reveal trailer did its best to dispel any notion that the game is simple Overwatch cloning. A few months later, fans were given the opportunity to see it for themselves, with Marvel Rivals' closed playtests that show the unique strengths of the hero shooter.
Marvel Rivals made the right moves every step of the way, and the last few weeks before the game's release were especially crucial. But the NetEase developer said all the right things. With the confirmation that Marvel Rivals would have 33 playable heroes at launch, NetEase has confirmed that every hero will be free to play and that any future heroes, modes and maps will also be completely free for all players. The latest announcement revolved around Marvel Rivals' monetization practices and seems to take a page out of Helldivers 2his playbook.

Marvel Rivals borrows Helldivers 2's approach to battle passes
Helldivers 2's abiding wartime ties helped justify its live-service approach
The live-service genre has never been more volatile. While games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone can continue to rake in millions every year, titles like Concordia they are closed in less than two weeks. It is more important than ever that a new live service game is transparent about its monetization practices, and the more reasonable and consumer-friendly they are, the more successful the game is likely to be.
Helldivers 2 is the perfect example of this. Although Helldivers 2 is strictly a multiplayer game with co-op live services, it has managed to sidestep many of the common criticisms of the genre and embrace the positive aspects of the model. For example, Helldivers 2 has delivered a steady stream of updates since its release in February, adding new weapons, stratagems, enemy types, and more to the game for free.
But Helldivers 2 it has to make its money somewhere (besides the initial entry price) and that somewhere is through its premium war bonds. Essentially a battle pass, Helldivers 2Premium Warbonds will give players tons of new weapons, gear, boosters, and cosmetics to unlock. These Warbonds can be purchased via in-game currency, which can be earned through gameplay or using real-world cash. This choice is already set Helldivers 2its monetization apart from other live games.
But another great aspect of Helldivers 2His premium war bonds is that they are permanent. Unlike games like Fortnite, Helldivers 2his battle passes do not disappear at the end of the season, but remain unlocked and available for purchase forever. This completely eliminates the need for players to rush to complete the battle pass as they will not miss the chance to unlock the content they have purchased.
Marvel Rivals' permanent battle passes keep fans invested
Based on the recent Dev Talk 07 blog post on its official website, Marvel Rivals seems to lend itself Helldivers 2his approach to premium battle passes. The Dev Talk post says:
What's more, once you purchase a Luxury Battle Pass, you can continue to redeem rewards in subsequent seasons if you don't complete it in the current season. No need to worry about not having enough time to complete it.
This approach will certainly have the same obvious benefits as Helldivers 2players being able to take their time to complete missions and earn the rewards they spent money on in the real world. This approach also goes hand in hand Marvel RivalsSeason 0 Battle Pass, which will be about half the length and half the price of a regular Battle Pass due to the shorter season length. This will give new players a nice taste Marvel RivalsBattle Pass system for a fraction of the regular cost.
