How to play Mew ex effectively
With the release of Mew ex in Pokemon PocketThe META of the game is in an interesting phase. On the one hand, Pikachu and Mewtwo dominate PvP matches. On the other hand, Mew ex has the potential to shake up the metagame, but also fits well in rising Mewtwo ex decks. In a way, Mew ex balances its impact on the META by boosting a top archetype while providing a counter. However, we'll have to wait a bit longer to see its full effects, as Mew ex is still a relatively new card.

Pokemon TCG Pocket: The Best Blastoise ex Deck Build
Blastoise ex is among the few Pokemon Pocket cards that can marginalize some metagame decks in PvP with a little luck; here's how to exploit it.
If you want to add Pokemon PocketThe newly released Mew ex to your decks, here's a suggested lineup. After analyzing some configurations, I came to the conclusion that a team of former Mewtwo and Gardevoir is a perfect fit for former Mew.
Mew ex Card Overview
- HP: 130
- ATC: 20 (minimal damage). Maximum damage depends on the enemy's active Pokemon.
- Basic move: Psyshot. 20 damage for a psychic energy.
- Secondary movement: Hacking the genome. Choose one of your opponent's active Pokemon's attacks and use it as this attack.
- Weakness: Dark type
Mew ex is a basic 130 HP Pokemon with the ability to copy the enemy's active Pokemon's attack. This unique move makes Mew ex one of the deadliest counters and tech cards in the game, capable of one-hit META cards like Mewtwo ex.
What makes Mew ex even more interesting is his ultimate move, Genome Hacking, which works with all energy types. This means that Mew ex is not limited to Psychic decks and can be added to different lines as a versatile tech option.
Mew ex also works with Budding Expeditioner, one of the newest supporter cards in Pokemon Pocket. Acting as Koga for the former Mew, Budding Expeditioner takes it from the hot spot and heals it, essentially giving a free retreat. Together, they create a range of counters that is difficult to manage – especially if the user is addressing the Energy issue with cards like Misty or Gardevoir.
The best deck for Mew ex
In the current metagame of Pokemon Pocket, Mew ex works best in a refined Mewtwo ex and Gardevoir deck. This build combines Mew ex with Mewtwo ex and Gardevoir's Evolution lineup. The “refined” part comes from Trainer Cards, where you'll need to include Mythical Slab and Budding Expeditioners — two new cards from the Mythical Island mini-set. Here is the full list of packages.

How to play Mew ex effectively
Here are some notes:
1. Prioritize flexibility while playing Mew ex.
Be ready to switch the former Mew often. If it's on the board early, it can damage the tank while you build your main damage dealer. But this phase is critical; if you don't draw the right cards, you may need to rely on Mew ex's damage instead of using her as a substitute. Stay flexible and reactive with your strategy.
2. Don't fall for the enemy's conditional attacks.
If a former enemy Pokemon's attack has a condition, make sure you meet its requirements before copying it with Mew ex. For example, the former Pikachu's attack adds “+30 damage to each of your banked Lightning-type Pokemon.” If you copy this with Mew ex, it won't work unless you have lightning-type Pokemon on your bench.
3. Use Mew ex as a tanky tech card rather than a DPS.
Building a deck around Mew ex's damage output will not yield consistent results. Instead, use Mew ex as a flexible tech card that can take out high damage enemy cards in key situations. Sometimes just playing it is enough to absorb the damage with the 130 HP.
How to counter Mew ex
At this point, playing Pokemon with conditional moves is the best way to counter Mew ex's effect. Take Pikachu ex, for example. Former Pikachu's move, Circle Circuit, only deals good damage if you have Pokemon Lightning on your Bench. So copying him with Mew ex will essentially prove useless since most Mew ex decks run Psychic type decks, not Lightning.
Another strategy against Mew ex is to feed him a low damage tanky card. Since Mew ex can only copy your active Pokemon's attack, you can have a placeholder in this spot so Mew ex doesn't get anything to copy.
Nidoqueen is another conditional attacker that won't benefit Mew ex much. Its full potential is only realized if you have several Nidokings on the bench.
Mew ex Deck Review
Mew ex is constantly making its mark Pokemon Pocketis the GOAL. Expect to see more decks built around its mirror archetype in competitive play. While building a deck centered around Mew ex might not be ideal, adding it to well-established Psychic decks can provide a significant boost.
So is Mew ex worth experimenting with? Absolute. You'll need this card – or at least be ready for it – if you're going to compete Pokemon Pocket.
