On October 26th, Akira Kо̄no, grandson of renowned anime art director and background artist Ryo Kono, revealed the tragic news of her death three days prior on October 23rd. He expressed that every project he worked on was a source of pride for their family. . Ryо̄ Kо̄no was best known for her contributions to its anime adaptation Mob Psycho 100from Satoshi Kon Perfect blue, Space Dandy, DEVILMAN Crybaby and many other popular anime titles.

Ryo Kono was born Hiromi Kо̄no in Tokyo and began his career in the anime industry working as a background artist at Sayonara Ginga Tetsudou 999: Andromeda Shuuchakueki (Adieu Galaxy Express 999) film in 1981. In 1983, he worked on Madhouse's mecha film Armageddon as an art assistant, continuing to work exclusively with the studio on a number of famous projects, including Satoshi Kon's Agent Paranoia (2004); BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad (2004); anime adaptation of nana by the author Ai Yazawa Paradise Kiss (2005) and Tatami Galaxy (2010).

Kono was also involved in the productions of Ninja Scroll (1993); Perfect Blue (1997); Tezuka Productions' Metropolis (2001); and the recently aired seventh season of My hero academy. As art director, Kо̄no worked on titles such as Space Dandy, Super Crooks, Carol and Tuesdayand of course, its adaptation One Punch Man author ONE Mob Psycho 100which is often cited as a masterpiece of modern animation and can be considered a contemporary classic. Kо̄no died on October 23 of suspected gastrointestinal bleeding. Ryo Kono has left an indelible mark on the animation industry and environment. May he rest in peace.
