Sony's latest State of Play broadcast has set an official release date of November 7, 2024 Metro Awakening VR. The native VR shooter is a spin-off in popular Metro shooter and was first announced in February 2024 for PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest 2 and 3, Viveport and Steam VR.

New trailer release date for Metro Awakening VR reveals that the game follows the origin story of the character Khan, who is a mysterious and powerful figure hidden in the shadows Metro series games. In Subway 2033 and Last LightKhan is an enigmatic figure who helps protagonist Artyom through the tunnels and even cameos in one of his endings Metro Exodus. The VR game makes it clear that Khan was not always Khan. Instead, he was a survivor named Serdar and is pushed by the events of the game to the limit of his mind in his journey to save a loved one named Yana.
Metro Awakening VR it also promises to use the immersive nature of the VR presentation to amplify the story's sense of tension and paranoia. Using motion controllers, the footage shows players directly “holding” weapons, manually reloading them, and using their virtual hands to check equipment and don things like gas masks or monitor radiation. Metro fans not interested in VR gaming need not worry, however, as a new main line Metro the game is in development at 4A Games, targeted for an eventual release on consoles and PC, without a VR requirement.
