First reviews for Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Silent Hill 2 remake are out, courtesy of Famitsu, and they're great. Metaphor: ReFantazio came very close to getting a perfect score from the Japanese magazine, suggesting that the October 2024 game will be a real treat for JRPG fans.
As is usual for the beginning of the fourth quarter, October 2024 is absolutely packed with high-profile video game releases. Some of the most anticipated titles from this upcoming batch are Silent Hill 2 redo and Metaphor: ReFantaziowhich are scheduled to debut on the 8th and 11th respectively of the month.
And while international review embargoes for these games have yet to be lifted, the latest weekly issue of Famitsu includes reviews of both. More precisely, the Japanese magazine gave Metaphor: ReFantazio a score of 37 while evaluating Silent Hill 2 remake with a 35, reports Gematsu. For reference, all Famitsu ratings are derived from a total of four individual 1–10 scores, meaning that both upcoming games received near-perfect ratings from a quartet of reviewers each.

As for the specifics of the reviews, Famitsu praised Metaphor: ReFantazio for her persona-similar combat system, which also borrows the Press Turn mechanic from Shin Megami Tensei series, allowing players to win and lose tournaments based on their actions in battle. The magazine's reviewers were also impressed with the game's overall amount of content, estimating the average playtime to be between 80 and 100 hours.
Meanwhile, the Silent Hill 2 the remake has been praised for its atmosphere and world design, which manages to be both grounded in reality and deeply unsettling. Famitsu's reviewers also enjoyed the game's upgraded visuals and voice acting. As regards Silent Hill 2 duration of the remake, they estimated that the first run of the game would take between 16 and 18 hours. The October 2024 first issue of Famitsu magazine also includes reviews of Metro Quester: Osaka and Touhou Genso Wanderer: Predictionboth received a rating of 29.
Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Silent Hill 2 remake are far from the only highly anticipated games to be released later this month. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to debut on October 25 and will be followed by Dragon Age: The Veilguard six days later. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and Sonic x Shadow Generations are planned to be released on the 11th and 25th respectively, while the Switch-exclusive version Super Mario Party Jamboree it will hit the market on the 17th.
