Playtest of the limited time 6v6 game mode Overwatch 2 has been extended beyond its planned end date of January 6, with game director Aaron Keller confirming that the mode will remain available until mid-season before moving to an open-tail format. This is due to the tremendous popularity that the 6v6 format has seen since its return Overwatch 2with many fans hoping that the mod will become a permanent addition to the game later on.
With 6v6 appearing for the first time in the sequel Back in November of last year, during the Overwatch Classic event, Blizzard quickly realized fans' love for the 6v6 game mode in Overwatch 2. The mod's initial run only lasted a few weeks, but it quickly proved to be among the game's most played mods. It didn't take long for 6v6 to find its way back into Overwatch 2 shortly after the start of the 14th season, with the second 6v6 role-playing queue game test, originally intended to take place from December 17 to January 6, although without featuring the return of some abilities of Ancient Hero, such as the Overwatch Classic event.
