The hero shooter genre has seen many games come and go over the past eight years or so. Some hero shooters managed to stick around for a while, others were shut down after just a few weeks. But there's one game that still stands tall at the top of the heap, and that's it Overwatch 2.
Although Overwatch 2The early access launch in October 2022 was quite the shocker, the continuation of the live service has managed to gradually right the ship over the past few years. Thanks to consistent updates that have added more maps, modes and heroes, Overwatch 2 it's arguably better than it's ever been, and it's still pulling in some impressive numbers on Steam. But a new competitor is about to enter the hero shooter market and Overwatch 2 Season 14 will have to go above and beyond to retain its crown.

Overwatch 2 will have a major competition in December
On December 6, Marvel Rivals will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. A 6v6 hero shooter, Marvel Rivals features gameplay very similar to Overwatch 2and even includes some very similar character abilities. But while Overwatch is used to seeing competitors, Marvel Rivals has a few tricks up its sleeve that could cause Blizzard some trouble.
Marvel Rivals' Its biggest asset, and most obvious, is its roster full of Marvel heroes and villains. It draws characters from all corners of the Marvel Universe, from the X-Men to the Avengers and everything in between. This immediate brand recognition is a powerful thing and could be the key to drawing players away from Overwatch upon his release.
Another strong point that Marvel Rivals will enjoy at launch is his next default. At the beginning of this year, Marvel Rivals hosted a series of closed playtests. These playtests brought in over 50,000 players on launch day, many of whom will likely return on December 6th. There's also a good chunk of fans who didn't participate in the closed playtests who have been eagerly awaiting their chance to play the game for months now — and that's just launch day.
After its initial release, Marvel Rivals is set to begin its post-launch plans immediately, releasing Season 0 on launch day. During the month-long season, Marvel Rivals will get six new playable characters along with a bunch of new maps. This content should keep new players invested for at least December, which could be a significant problem for Overwatch 2 Season 14, which is set to release just 4 days after Marvel Rivals.
Overwatch 2 Season 14 is already making the right moves
It launches on December 10, Overwatch 2 Season 14 will have to do something big to compete Marvel Rivals. It looks like Blizzard has already started making the right moves as a new character approaches Overwatch 2 with season 14. Overwatch 2Tank's new hero, Hazard, looks like a fun addition to the roster, and fans will get a chance to play as him briefly between November 22nd and 25th. Hopefully this trial goes well so Hazard can put a positive spin on it Overwatch 2 in December.
Overwatch 2 It's also finally starting to test 6v6 gameplay in Season 14, which fans have been wanting since long before the game's release. But while Hazard testing and 6v6 are a good start, Overwatch 2 Season 14 might need something else to keep fans hooked throughout December.
