What causes aftershocks?
There are lots of ways to cause damage Path of Exile 2. His skill tree is more of a skill forest, and if you've found yourself in the Warrior side of the forest, you've probably heard about Aftershock a few times.
Replicas are one of the options players can take while leveling a warrior Path of Exile 2, and can be very satisfying to use if done right. Here's what you need to know about how Aftershock works, including the things you can use to trigger it.

Here's a quick tip on how to squeeze as much XP as possible while leveling up in Path of Exile 2.
What are aftershock effects?
Aftershock is an effect exclusively related to skills with the Slam tag (with some exceptions) and basically makes abilities hit twice. Slams refer to any ability that involves striking the ground with a weapon to deal AoE damage, such as Rolling Slam and Sunder under the Mace skill tree and Vaulting Leap under the Quarterstaff. When an aftershock occurs, the ground where the initial Slam attack shakes after a short delaydamaging any enemy standing on it. This is a great way to scale your damage on Cruel difficulty and beyond.
The damage dealt by an Aftershock is the same as the attack that caused itunless otherwise specified by any support gem or passive ability that caused Aftershock to appear in the first place. In the case of the Sunder ability, Aftershocks cause an additional wave of jagged spikes to burst forward, essentially making the ability cast twice (or more).
What causes aftershocks?
Players can trigger Aftershocks by unlocking certain passive abilities or using certain support gems PoE 2. Some skills also have guaranteed Aftershock procs. Notable aftershock triggers include:
Replica abilities and passives |
|
---|---|
Skill |
Effect |
Impact shockwave (Tier 1 Support Gem) |
Melee abilities cause knockback after heavily stunning an enemy. |
Reply (Tier 2 Support Gem) |
Supported Slam abilities have a 25% chance to cause knockbacks. |
Tremors (Level 3 Support Gem) |
Supported Slam skills take 35% damage reduction, but can trigger multiple knockbacks. |
Earthbreaker (Titan Ascendancy Passive) |
Slams you use yourself have a 20% chance to cause knockback. |
Split The Earth (Passive Spades) |
Slam and Mace Strike abilities have a 10% chance to cause aftershocks. |
Mace Replica Chance (Mace Passive) |
All Mace Slam abilities have a 10% chance to cause aftershocks. |
Seismic cry (Mace Skill) |
Let out a war cry. If it hits a heavily stunned enemy, your next Slam attack is guaranteed to trigger a knockback. |
Supercharged sludge (Mace Skill) |
Charge up for a hard slam. Guarantees up to four replicas when fully charged. |
Effects that increase or give you a chance to trigger Aftershocks work together, but don't necessarily stack on top of each other. For example, using the Aftershock support gem with the Titan's Earthbreaker passive will give all relevant abilities a 45% chance to trigger Aftershocks according to the in-game skill instruction window. However, this does not account for the Split The Earth and Mace Aftershock Chance passives, which appear to run separately from the set 45% trigger chance.
