Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum leaks explained

Pokémon was recently hit with what is now arguably the biggest leak in the series' history. True to its name, Teraleak has presented more than a Terabyte of previously unpublished information, all of which is data sourced directly from Game Freak himself. Of course, a leak of this size has left no stone unturned when it comes to Pokémon the series as a whole.

However, this does not mean that every game in the series received “equal treatment”. Like, there was almost nothing to share Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow leaks. Also, major unreleased Gen 2 content had already been leaked before. Despite coming much later than the previous two installments of the series, Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum seem to have met a similar fate. While the scant amount of cut content can be disappointing, it hides revelations that are all the more interesting.

Everything the massive Pokemon Leak revealed about Diamond, Pearl and Platinum

The Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum leaks have a glaring omission

Until now, the main attraction of Teraleak has been the Pokemon themselves. Whether it's beta models of existing Pokemon or never-before-seen Pokemon, there have been a number of leaked Pokemon models at the forefront of this conversation. These can currently be viewed in the complete Teraleak archive posted by Centro Leaks,

Unfortunately for Gen 4 fans, Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum are largely absent from this section. Currently, this is a bit of a mystery compared to Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal leaks, where the games have simply already been extracted for all they're worth. Likewise, the Pokémon the series appears to have become more widely documented over time, meaning that Gen 4 might have been expected to keep up with its peers. Fortunately, one major aspect of the Gen 4 was still up for leaks.

Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum leaks have a saving grace

What Generation 4 lacks in unused Pokemon, it more than makes up for with unique design documents. Diamond and pearl it marked somewhat of a transitional period for the series, where the characters became more fleshed out and the world building became just as ambitious. Both traits have been fully realized in the recent Gen 4 leaks.

Similar to Black and white pokemon leaks, the Gen 4 design documents include character bios. Clearly, these were never intended to see the light of day, and therefore should not be considered canon in any capacity. However, it does provide interesting insights into the thought process the developers had when creating several important characters.

They have also become the subject of much fan discussion in their own right. For example, Cyrus is the leader of Gen 4's Galactic Team, and his biography suggests that he may be intended to be on the autism spectrum. The nature of the translation has given rise to some conflicting accounts, but there is nothing wrong with the main canons that emerged regardless.

Pokemon Generation 4 leaks hide deep knowledge about the series

Besides, the Gen 4 Teraleak section is actually hiding something deep Pokémon knowledge. World building a Pokémon it's been relatively light in the past, preferring a fairytale approach instead of any kind of deep dive. This leak finally cracked that shell wide open and apparently revealed Game Freak's proposed vision for the creation myth Pokémon world.

Legendary and Mythical Pokemon have always had an ambiguous relationship, but a diagram from Teraleak seems to suggest that they exist as two halves of a shared pantheon. This describes Legendary Pokémon as literal gods, and Mythical Pokémon as lesser divine beings with a direct family relationship to their Legendary counterparts. Pokemon designs have always straddled the line between wild beasts and mythical creatures, and these secret documents make that intention clearer than ever.

At first glance, it may appear that there is less leaked content about the Sinnoh region compared to its peers. However, this could not be further from the truth. The Teraleak has revealed information that gives much more clarity to both the characters and the story Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Some of the deepest traditions are a complete surprise, but it's certainly a welcome one.
