2024 was an oddly quiet year for Pokémon the franchise. Although there have been some exciting announcements here and there, such as the reveal Pokemon Legends ZA and his revelation Pokemon Horizons: The SeriesThe second season, there wasn't really any new content for console players to enjoy. Indeed, 2024 is the first year in nearly a decade that The Pokemon Company hasn't released a new one Pokémon game, remake or expansion for a Nintendo platform. The wildly successful one Pokemon Pocket Trading Card Game it was released earlier this year on iOS and Android, but that's about it.
As fans wait for Nintendo to release the next big entry in the Pokemo n series, I may give some alternatives a chance in the meantime. One such PokémonThe style game is actually heading to PlayStation Plus very soon. Earlier this week, Sony announced that the creature-collecting RPG We fear was coming to PS Plus as part of the Monthly Games Catalog for December. The game, which will be added to the service alongside It takes two and Aliens: Dark Descentwill be available to all PlayStation Plus members (ie Essential, Extra and Premium subscribers) from December 3rd to January 6th.

Pokemon Gen 10 could use a feature from Temtem
The Pokemon games offer plenty of options for post-game collecting, but a feature from Temtem could make the grind more rewarding.
Temtem will be part of the PlayStation Plus monthly games lineup for December
Temtem has a lot in common with Pokemon, but is still unique in many ways
A lot of video games have tried to imitate them Pokémonhis monster-catching formula over the years, but most of them either failed or didn't gain much attention from mainstream audiences. We fearhowever, it is probably one of the most well-known of these Pokémon– style games. Developed by independent Spanish studio Crema and published by Humble Bundle, We fear was originally announced on Kickstarter in 2018. Once it raised enough funds from fans, it was released for PC through the Steam Early Access program in January 2020. The game was ported to PlayStation 5 later that year and was later brought on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch in 2022.
We fearIts basic premise is very similar to Pokémonhis. Players are placed in the shoes of novice Temtem tamers who, in order to become the best, must travel across the six islands of the Airborne Archipelago to defeat eight different Dojo leaders, all while battling the evil grunts of the Belsoto Clan along the way . The game also features turn-based combat, just like in Pokémon. Where We fear it's distinct from Nintendo's blockbuster franchise, but it's in its own genre. Unlike the main line Pokémon rates, this game is an online only MMORPG. Players can play alone and fight in competitive PvP battles or team up with friends. Additionally, they can create houses, customize their in-game avatars, and trade Temtems with other players.

the equivalent of Pokemon.
The developers behind Temtem have confirmed that it will no longer receive major updates
Although We fear was largely a critical and commercial success, it no longer receives new content updates. Crema announced back in March 2024 that support for the MMO would end later this year. While it's unfortunate that players trying out the game on PS Plus won't have any future content to look forward to, it will at least remain playable for the foreseeable future. On the bright side, all the microtransactions that were once present in We fear were recently removed so players don't have to worry about spending a lot of money on in-game purchases.
Temtem is the closest thing to Pokemon on PS5
Unless something changes drastically with Nintendo's business strategy in the next few years, Pokémon the games will almost certainly never come to PlayStation consoles. As such, for PS5 owners, We fear it's probably for the best. When the creature-collecting MMORPG hits PS Plus on December 3rd, PlayStation fans should make sure to add it to their libraries. If they like it, they might want to check out Crema's latest game, We fear: swarms. Although this The Vampire SurvivorsAction RPG in style is only available on PC and does not have much in common with Pokémonmay be worth a look.
