McDonald's and Pokemon are teaming up once again in 2024, bringing a number of Pokemon TCG cards to stores.
On Reddit, Pokemon TCG fan Cpt_JimBob_Sherwood shared their new reward with other players and explained how it came about. Apparently, Cpt_JimBob_Sherwood walked into a gas station and saw a display with Pokémon cards for sale from the recent Surging Sparks expansion. With about 20 decks on display, Cpt_JimBob_Sherwood had the idea to simply ask the store clerk if he could take the store display if he bought all the decks of cards displayed on it. The store clerk agreed, and the result can be seen in the photo of the Reddit post, with the store's display hidden in the backseat of the fan's car.
Pokemon TCG players share their own loot
Some Pokemon TCG the collectors who responded were a bit envious and hadn't thought to ask for such a thing previously. However, several others shared photos of their own in-store displays that they were able to bring home, including one fan with another Sparks rising the store display, and another with a Pokemon TCG Sword & Shield Fusion Strike display. In some cases, fans requested the display like Cpt_JimBob_Sherwood did, while in others, store clerks simply gave them to fans.
In general, in-store displays like these tend to be discarded or returned once a promotion ends. Some Pokémon fans with retail experience expressed that taking home a store display like this could actually do the gas station a favor since they don't have to deal with destroying it themselves now. While Cpt_JimBob_Sherwood unfortunately did not find the Special Illustration Rare Pikachu card in the many packs that were included in the display they were looking for. That particular book was at the top of many fans' wish lists, and buying it solo was quite expensive for some collectors. While it's a shame they didn't get exactly what they wanted, for some, what Cpt_JimBob_Sherwood came out with is still pretty rare and cool.
