Game Awardshosted by Geoff Keighley, will take place on 12 December. The biggest award to come out of the showcase is of course the coveted Game of the Year, but it's far from the only award worth out there. Some might consider the Best Narrative category to be one of the most important, because while the gameplay is more than enough to carry a game, an engaging story goes a long way as well. This goes without saying in the two games that have been nominated for both Best Narrative and Game of the Year at The Game Awards, namely Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Refantazio metaphor.
Nominees for Best Narration include Final Fantasy 7 RebirthLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Metafora: ReFantazio, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2and Silent Hill 2. Every game has an obviously strong story behind it, whether it's the classic story FF7 (with a minor twist), the touching story of Kiryu and Ichiban in Like a Dragon: Infinite wealthor the idealistic nature of Metaphorhis hopeful story. Narrowing down this category is difficult, but it seems safe to say that, of these five, FFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealthor Metaphor: ReFantazio is most likely to win. There is nothing against it Hellblade 2 or Silent Hill 2 of course, as both are exceptional experiences in their own right, but looking at the overall narrative direction and reception (as seen below), it's clear that these two fall a little behind.
OpenCritic reviews of Best Narrative nominees
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth
- Metaphor: ReFantanzio
- Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
- Silent Hill 2
Narrowing it down beyond that is silly, but it looks like the most likely winner Metaphor: ReFantazio. It's not uncommon for a game or two to win multiple awards at The Game Awards, and if there's one game capable of doing so this year, it's Metaphor: ReFantazio. Technically speaking, Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth they have one more nomination (at 7) than Metaphor (at 6), but while they each appear in multiple categories, Best Narrative feels more likely to go to Metaphor. Either way, fans can expect it FF7 Rebirth and Metaphor to earn more easily (and Astro Bot also, though that is neither here nor there now).
That said, if there is a possible “dark horse” here, Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth it's an excellent game that deserves a win as well. Where FF7 Rebirth tells a classic story, though familiar and Metaphor introduces, fleshes out and expands a beautiful, captivating world, Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth get the best of both worlds. It fleshes out the story of Kiryu, Ichibian and Hawaii alike Metaphor that's what the world does, and it's familiar in the way FF7 Rebirth is while telling a new story. Of course, some find Like a Dragon: Infinite wealthhis story to be a bit “much” and overly complex with too many twists and turns FF7 Rebirth and Metaphor they are much less divisive about it. Divisiveness can sometimes be good, though, because it shows how strongly people can feel about something.
Anyway, FF7 Rebirth, Metaphorand Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth (if to a lesser extent) leads the pack, and if I were a betting man, I'd go all-in- Metaphor: ReFantazio. His win here would be well deserved, but for now fans will have to wait and see what happens on December 12th.
