Founded almost 40 years ago, rare is one of the most renowned developers in the gaming industry. Rare began developing a wide range of licensed games, ranging from adaptations of shows such as Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortuneto a handful of Sesame Street and WWF games. But Rare really rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s with the introduction of beloved series such as Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect darknessand Long live Pinata.
In his golden age, Rare played 3-5 games a year. It's quite far from Rare's current output, the studio hasn't released a new game since 2018. Sea of Thieves. But Rare has something new in the works, and a fresh look could start the developer's year off with a bang.

Rare may finally reveal more about Everwild in 2025
Everwild's development journey so far
Although it has been reported that Everwild began development in 2014, was not officially announced until November 2019, where it appeared during Xbox's final X0 presentation. EverwildIts debut cinematic trailer showcased the game's overall tone, atmosphere, and setting, revealing a band of magical travelers who use their connection to nature to survive harsh weather conditions.
The rare ones Everwild he has not been seen since. In June 2021, both Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat and Andy Robinson of VGC claimed that Everwild resumed development after the departure of the game's original creative director, Simon Woodroffe. It was then reported that Gregg Mayles, one of Rare's most senior members, had taken over as creative director Everwildand that development was back on track.
All the news around Everwild then it stopped completely. That is, until October of this year, when Phil Spencer posted a picture on Threads of himself and a handful of Rare devs with the caption, “Great day at Rare, hanging out with the devs at their offices and playing Everwild.”

With Phil Spencer's post on Threads confirming this Everwild is still in active development and playable in some form, fans were filled with a new sense of hope for the long-awaited Rare game. That hope was bolstered just a few days ago when Rare tweeted a virtual holiday card with an image apparently referencing Everwild.
Although this is far from a confirmation that Rare is ready to reveal something new about Everwildit's a great sign to see the developer actively referencing the project publicly once again.
Rare could be relaunching Everwild during the 2025 Xbox unveiling
If Rare was ready to reveal more of the Everwildthen they would have some opportunities to do so in 2025. Although not yet confirmed, an Xbox Developer Direct is heavily rumored to take place again in January 2025. With Everwild being an Xbox Game Studios project, it would make sense for it to appear there in some form.
Alternative, Everwild could be in the spotlight briefly in the summer Xbox 2025 presentation. While Rare doesn't have to reveal again Everwild if he's not ready to do so, a short teaser trailer this year could help bring him back into the public consciousness and keep fans excited for what's to come later.
