There's a lot to do in The Sims 4, although it can feel a little repetitive at times. There's a lot you can do in live mode, like sparking drama in random households or doing a generational challenge. But there's only so much your Sims can handle at once, so maybe it's time to give them a break and some new lots to explore.

Meet these Ravenwood residents.
Alternatively, you can build something for your Sims to hang out in, and it doesn't have to be another house. There are options available to build community lots. So if you were looking for some ideas, here are some things to build in The Sims 4 that aren't houses.
1
greenhouse
Move gardener inside
If you want to add a little luxury to your Sims' residence, you can build a small greenhouse in your Sims' backyard. It would be a nice little add-on for any Sim who enjoys gardening, or if you're trying to make some quick cash from a hobby.
It's a quick and easy project if you want to start small, but there are all kinds of clutter you can add to a greenhouse to create ambiance. Now your Sim can finally grow a cow plant in peace to eat those pesky Sims who come into your house to play on the computer.
2
Castle
Live the Royal Dreams
If you want to create something spectacular that will stand out from all the other lots, build a castle! There are plenty of good off-the-grid options if you have the Cottage Living package if you want to really challenge yourself.
Or maybe you want to create the ruins of a castle, something that was once inhabited but has since been abandoned and long forgotten. Once you've decided on a route, you can either make a Sim royal family live there or turn it into a vacation rental.
3
Prison
Shut down those annoying Sims
If you want to do something about some of the more unruly or annoying Sims, it's time to build a place just for them. And that place would be a prison. Without modification, you can place up to eight Sims in a residential lot, so choose carefully.
You can set up this prison as a dorm with a few bunk beds, or each Sim can have their own individual room with their own activities to make some profit while incarcerated. It may not be very practical, but it is a good drama or a good story.
A place for your Sims to hang out
A community center would be another great place for Sims to meet outside of the typical community lots that come to different worlds. You could also choose to turn the lot into a teen center to provide a place for teens to hang out.
There are many things you could add to the interior of the community center: a mini gym, a craft area or a performance area. Or you could do it in a big, cozy area where you feel like hanging out. The choice is yours!

The cemetery and the church
A place of mourning
With the new Life and Death expansion pack, creating a graveyard just got a whole lot easier. With the new expansion pack, all you have to do is make sure you assign the lot as a graveyard and start building a graveyard.

You can build a graveyard if you don't have Life and Death, but you may want to add something else to the lot, such as a church or mausoleum. It would be a perfect little place to let your Sims mourn their lost ones or a place to hang out.
6
Bathroom
Come in and relax
A bathroom is basically a general place where people can bathe and practice other hygiene. It could be as simple as creating a building and placing a few rooms with all the basic bathroom amenities, but you could also create a more elegant type of bathroom.
In some areas, the baths can practically be spas, with medicinal baths, saunas and even a steam room. So why not go all out and create a mini spa for your Sims so they can relax after a long day of pampering?
7
Laundry
Clean those clothes
If you have the Laundry Day Stuff pack, you can build a laundry. While it doesn't sound very glamorous, it's definitely something to build to make the Sims world a little more realistic.
All you have to do is create a basic building and build a line of washers and dryers and add some clutter here and there. It might be a little basic, but who's to say there isn't a back-of-the-house side business of making candles or cross-stitching?
8
Public pool
Pool day
A public pool could be indoor or outdoor, but if you have the Seasons expansion pack, an indoor pool may be more ideal for your game. It would be a fun place for your Sims to go to exercise, and you won't have to try to fit a pool in your Sims' house!
Again, it doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it certainly could be since it's a community lot. You can add a small kiddie pool area or slide, add some slot machines around and the whole family can come and have fun.
9
Event center
No more dirty dishes
If you are tired of always hosting events because there is nowhere better to have them, why not make an event center? You can either customize one for each type of event available or have a general building for all of them.
You will no longer have to worry about the massive mess in your Sims' home. With the event center, you can add the necessary necessary amenities like the stove, stereo, and anything else that fills the event bar to get a gold medal every time.
