The events of Honkai: Star Rail 2.4 and 2.5 saw Borisin covertly invade Xianzhou Luofu to free his warhead, Hoolay, from Shackling prison. This story mainly focuses on the conflict between the Borisin and their relatives, the Foxians. However, it also refers to the centuries of war between the Xianzhou Alliance and the major faction Borisin is a part of: the Dwellers of Abundance.
Dwellers of Abundance comprise the long-lived species that follow the Aeon Yaoshi, which include:
- Borisin: These canine-humanoid species share a common ancestor with the Foxians, and both once lived on the planet Verdantia. Yaoshi is said to have created the Red Spring in Verdantia, and those who drank from it gained immortality. This blessing also causes a population boom within it, leading to its downfall. The survivors fled the planet, and the Borisins eventually gained notoriety for conquering other civilizations with their raw power and vast knowledge of biotechnology.
- wing weavers: These are feathered species that lived on Muldrasil. They were your enemies Honkai: Star Railto Xianzhou since before the latter gained immortality. They slaughtered many of the Alliance natives.
- Houyhnhnm: These centaur-like species have four hind limbs and two arms. They formed alliances with Borisin and were recently enslaved by the Antimatter Legion.
- Heliobi: These are formless species of pure energy. Their origin is unknown, and while Xianzhou classifies them as denizens of Abundance, their faction affiliation is unclear. They have been enemies of the Alliance since time immemorial, as they often attempt to possess and drain human bodies.
The conflict between the inhabitants of abundance and the Xianzhou Alliance
The inhabitants' devotion to their way makes them natural enemies of Xianzhou, whose goal is to eradicate the “plagues of Abundance”. To understand this conflict, we need to know the history of the Alliance, who were formerly devoted followers of the Way of Abundance.
Xianzhou history and abundance
Centuries ago, the Xianzhou Alliance sought the medicine of immortality and received it from Yaoshi, through the Ambrosial Tree that the Aeon planted on Luofu. However, they discovered that the long life they sought and now enjoyed was a curse, as Xianzhou's oldest citizens eventually became “Mara-Struck”. This condition causes a person of the long-lived species to slowly lose their minds and develop painful growths on their bodies, irreversibly turning them into hostile beings.
Immortality also caused massive population growth in Xianzhou, which was mismanaged and led to civil wars. The fleet suffered attacks from aliens who wanted immortality for themselves. Tired of bloodshed and civil unrest, Reignbow Arbiter Lan, one of the Alliance's fiercest heroes, rose up against the Abundance's control of Xianzhou.
Residents of the Abundance Wars
Not everyone supported Lan's dissent. However, the Alliance soon called for their help as the wingweavers began to advance towards the Xianzhou fleet. The hero made a deal with Emperor Flint of Heliobi, who was imprisoned in Shackling Prison, to harness their power. Together, they fired an arrow that destroyed the Ambrosial Arbor and the invading Wingweaver army in one shot. The force of this attack was so strong that it damaged every ship in the Xianzhou fleet. Lan and Emperor Flint later ascended to godhood and became the Aeon of the Hunt.
After the events of the first War of Abundance, the Alliance swore allegiance to Lan. Their mission to destroy the Dwellers of Abundance led to two other major conflicts. Most recently it ended up killing hundreds of thousands of Xianzhou pilots. It's been almost three decades since the third war, and it looks like the Borisin invasion could trigger the next one.
