Star Wars Jedi should come full circle on Cal Kestis customization

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor corrected a huge mistake when it came to customization. The configurations of the lightsaber components were consistently complicated in the series, to be fair, but what is memorable about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderHis customization is little more than paddle swaps for Cal Kestis, BD-1 and Stinger Mantis. It wasn't until Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that Respawn has invested in elaborate customization options, at least beyond the many colors of ponchos and overalls, and that allows Cal to take on a fully dynamic appearance now that he's able to grow a long, full beard.

The clothing options are wonderful to see Survivorespecially since it covers a wide range of specific eras Star Wars knowledge. Respawn and EA took this opportunity to score Survivor with fan-service cosmetics inspired by Star Wars' A New Hope and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both nostalgic and original clothing items are now expected to return in the final chapter of the franchise, although there is one simple and understated type that we hope Respawn will take special care to include as this would help fill out the series over time which concludes his trilogy: the hood pulled over Cal's head.

How Cal Kestis' Hooded Poncho Has an Undivided Impact on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Perhaps a hood cosmetic wouldn't be so requested or anticipated if Respawn hadn't teased one. Indeed, Cal wore the hood of his scraping poncho over his head when he was first revealed in the cinematic reveal trailer for The fallen order— in the first photo of the trailer, no less. The hood here helped sell the idea that Cal was actively hiding from the Galactic Empire and the Inquisitors on Bracca, keeping a low profile and not stepping out to live a quiet life as a refugee.

So it's disappointing that players wear the same hooded Scrapper Guild poncho in the game, but there's no option to have the hood worn over Cal's head. This isn't terribly alarming considering how minimal the customization options are for Cal in The fallen order for starters though Survivor it also eschewed the opportunity to have a piece of hooded gear in its extensive catalog.

Star Wars Jedi's Cal Kestis doesn't have to go to the dark side to don the hood

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of WarHis cosmetics include iconic hooded cloaks. Shadow of Mordorwas included as a Dark Ranger pre-order bonus skin, while Shadow of MordorIt is incorporated into the sequel's equipment system and the game's end narrative when Talion becomes a Nazgul.

This connotation in Monolith's Middle Earth the duology would suggest that the hoods are associated with darkness and, in Talion's case, being enslaved by the ring of Isildur – one of the nine rings given to men. Of course, countless characters have worn hooded cloaks without them having any particular meaning or subtext other than potentially trying to hide their identity, as seen with Aragorn's Strider character in Bree's Pony. However, it's remarkably neat and marks an aesthetic demarcation that cosmetics don't often seem to have in many games, and it's striking as a result.

If Respawn wanted to, they could have two viable means of pairing a hood with Star Wars JediCal Kestis's: Might offer a hooded cloak as a pre-order bonus similar to mordanthis, or he could throw Cal on a path to the dark side and give him a hooded robe while Anakin Skywalker gets dressed. Revenge of the Sithmuch less how Talion dons a hood when corrupted by the ring. Otherwise, a standard cloak with the hood up over Cal's head that doesn't have any light or dark connotations would be great to see in the last chapter of Star Wars Jedi.
