Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Every major returning character
There are some familiar faces in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
With three games and tons of DLC, the series has given its players hundreds of options. But what were the most difficult to do? Here are ten of the choices that made many gamers put down their controller and think. We will also talk about the consequences of the decision.
Updated on November 26, 2024, by Alfredo Robelo: With the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, we now have four games full of choices and moral dilemmas to think about. We've updated this article to include some options from the latest game so you can remember the difficulties of being a Rook as well as those from previous games.
13 Should your brother join you on the deep roads?
Their fate could be sealed if they do
Dragon Age 2 had a lot of flaws, but it also made a great story with them. For example, a lot of fans criticize that the game doesn't let you choose your race, and they're right to do so, but having an established origin made Hawke a more defined character, as well as making their relationship with them. much more delightful family.
Hawke has two siblings, Carver and Bethany, and one of them dies at the start of the game, depending on the class chosen. Later in the game, you plan an expedition to the Deep Roads, and your surviving brother wants to join you, though your mother is adamantly against it.
You know the road is dangerous, but what's the worst that could happen? Well, the next act of the game will remove your brother as an acting companion, but if they go with you into the Deep Roads, their options become a Gray Warden (and their lifespan is significantly reduced) or a gruesome death.
12 Save Minrathous or Treviso?
Dragons attack everywhere
One of the major choices in Dragon Age: Veilguard comes when dragons controlled by the ancient elves begin to attack several cities. You know they're attacking both Minrathous and Treviso, but you can only go to one of those places, with Neve and Lucanis asking for your help in their hometowns.
You send three companions to protect one city, while the other two join you to protect the other, but one of the two always falls. Since you are the protagonist, the one you went to is saved, but the other is devastated by destruction, either Neve or Lucanis, resenting your choice.
11 Where should you send your companions in the fight against Elgar'nan?
We have Mass Effect 2 at home
The final battle in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the pinnacle of the game, both mechanically and story-wise. Your companions no longer stay at the Lighthouse in vain; they will all join the battle in one way or another, with you choosing where they go and what task they should perform.
The first order of business is to pick a task that your companion can do; Taash is all about brute force, while Neve knows the arcane arts, so send them to their matching tasks. However, if you fail to complete their personal quests, your companions die anyway, even if they are experts at the task, probably because they are distracted by their personal troubles.
Anyone you send to investigate will always die, especially either Harding or Davrin.
10 Who should be spirit or human?
It's up to you to decide his fate
It's not every day you get a choice like this, so many players struggled to decide what Cole should be. Varric voted human, while Solas, of course, voted spirit. The player gets the last word and Cole doesn't seem to care either way.

Like most decisions in the series, there is no right or wrong answer. Just different consequences. If made more human, Cole becomes more complex. He understands concepts that he used to not know. He also makes love to the bard in the epilogue. If he is turned into a spirit, he becomes more distant. Not in a bad way though, as it just settles more into his powers. It also connects Krem with the bard in the epilogue.
9 Are you doing Harrowmont or Bhelen King?
Morality or leadership?
In Origins, a lot of players struggled with Orzammar's decisions. The greatest of these is between Harrowmont or Bhelen as king. The morally correct choice is obviously Harrowmont, however Bhelen is actually the better leader.
In the epilogue it is revealed that Orzammar becomes a place of riots and unrest if Harrowmont is elected. Under Bhelen, the city prospers.
8 Do you leave Alistair or Hawke in the fade?
Without Alistar, this is not a choice
No matter what your choices are in previous games, Hawke is in the fade with you. It depends on you original decisions though, you either have Alistair, Loghain or Stroud.
The hardest decision was whether Alistair was in the mix. You have to choose between the life of the protagonist from the second game or a fan favorite from the first. If you leave Hawke behind, whoever she or he loved will be heartbroken and so will Varric. If you leave Alistair, then the Guardians have lost a major leader. It's especially hard if you loved Alistair original.
7 Does Morrigan's Dark Ritual?
Kieran deserves to be born
To date, we do not know the full consequences of this decision. In originaleither you or Alistair must sacrifice yourself to defeat the Archdemon. Morrigan offers a simple way around this. One of you must impregnate her and the Archdemon's soul enters her when she dies and make a strange old god child.
Morrigan is quite upset about this and plans to disappear with this child. If you agree, you and Alistair live. You meet the child when you were a child Inquisition he's a little weird too. If you don't agree, one of you sacrifices yourself. You're still dating a kid Inquisitionbut he is quite average.
6 Who is the next divine?
Circles of magi will change forever in any way
A major decision in Inquisition is to figure out who will replace the deceased Divine. Your choices are between Leliana, Cassandra and Vivienne.
Dragon Age fans are very fractured in their opinions on who is the best. They all have strengths and weaknesses. Cassandra's strength is stability, but her weakness is that small changes. Leliana's power is change, but it divides people. Vivienne is complicated because she keeps the Circle like Cassandra, but gives it a political voice while keeping it on a leash.
5 Who to romance?
The fundamental question
This choice is less specific than all the others, but it had to go on here because it's often a decision players struggle with the most. Who you love can also influence every other decision. If you made love to Alistair, then you are more likely to leave Hawke in the Fade.
What gender and race you are often influences who is available to you. Sometimes there are major consequences that you won't see coming. For example, loving Solas. Who knew that guy would be an ancient elven god?
4 Should you drink from the fountain of sorrows?
It definitely pays off in Veilguard
Mysterious power, yes or no? It's a tough decision because you're given very little detail. Either you or Morrigan must drink, and Morrigan really wants to drink. Should you let her have the power though? On the other hand, the well is quite ominous and seems to require some kind of sacrifice.

If you drink, you hear voices in your head. Unfortunately, you don't understand them as well as Morrigan could. However, you can tame dragons with power. The bad part is that Mythal can control you like a puppet. With Morrigan drinking, she can transform into a dragon and also becomes a Mythal puppet.
3 Who should rule Ferelden?
Login is excluded
Whatever you choose, Loghain cannot continue to rule Ferelden. So you can choose between his daughter and Alistair. Note that if you play as a human noble, you can marry one of them to become a king or queen as well.
Alistair has a blood right to the throne, but no ambition to rule. For some people, however, this could be a good thing. Anora, on the other hand, is quite ambitious and has more of a cruel streak. You can also bring Alistair and Anora into an arranged marriage. Whatever you choose, Ferelden will be fine. However, as usual, not everyone will be happy.
2 Kill him or spare Anders?
You have a backup healer, right?
At the end of the second game, Anders blows up the Chantry and begins the Mage Rebellion. He lied to you regardless of your relationship. So what do you do? Some members of the party, especially Sebastian, want Anders dead for his act of terrorism.
Many players struggled with this, even those who loved Anders. If you kill him, he won't be there for the final battle. If you spare him, he will side with the mages and Sebastian will abandon you.
1 Mages or Templars?
Wild freedom or tight control?
Also, at the end of the second game, you're stuck with mages and templars. None of them blow up the Chantry, but Knight Commander Meredith has lost his mind to Anders, and the mages fight back with blood magic.
Whatever you choose will be largely consequential for your companions. If you are not close to them, they may abandon you and may even have to kill them.
