The best Alolan Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go features hundreds of popular species across all nine generations, giving trainers the chance to catch their favorite creatures often. Gen VII introduced Pokemon fans to many powerful species while creating a before and after moment for the entire franchise thanks to fresh gameplay mechanics and other elements.

Among these species, the Alola region has its own legendary trio, but that's not all, as it has also added fan-favorite Ultra Beasts to the Pokedex. That means fans of the franchise have plenty of Alolan Pokemon to choose from when it comes to powerful creatures that can cause raids, take on other players in trainer battles, or even take down Team Go Rocket leaders with ease.

Marshadow

Marshadow is the only Pokemon on this list that isn't a Legendary or Ultra Beast, but it's still a very rare find. The mythical creature was only available during Pokemon Go Fest 2024 as an exclusive ticket catch, meaning players are still waiting for its full release.

It has a lot of competition in the Fighting-type category, but Marshadow is one of the best attackers of this type due to its high ATK stat. Moreover, being super rare makes it an unpredictable choice.

Nihilego

Nihilego's type combination is key to understanding how to use it in battle. Ultra Beast is a great option for PvE due to its stats, which are all above the 200 mark. Poison-type attacks with STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) will help you quickly defeat Fairy-type raids.

However, you will need to be careful when picking Nihilego in Pokemon Go PvP. Ultra Beast is weak to Steel-type attacks, which are very common in the game, and can take massive damage from Ground-type moves, so keep that in mind.

Tapu Koko

The Electric/Fairy Legendary Pokemon packs a punch and has decent volume to help you in both PvE and PvP. Nature's Madness is a great Fairy-type attack to deal with Dragon-types. It charges quickly and lowers your opponent's defense by 20%, which is always useful.

You'll find other Electric-type Pokemon best suited for raids in Pokemon Go, but with Tapu Koko only having two weaknesses, it's a good choice overall. Just keep an eye on your HP as some heavy hitters can take him down in no time.

Lunala

Once you evolve Cosmog into Cosmoem, you have two options: to evolve it into Solgaleo or Lunala. Solgaleo didn't make this list because it can't compete with other Psychic or Steel types in terms of damage output and effectiveness.

Lunala, being only weak to Dark and Ghost type attacks, takes the toll as she excels as both a Psychic and Ghost type attacker in Pokemon Go. With a high volume and high ATK stat, the Legendary deck for Pokemon Moon is a great choice for both PvP and PvE.

Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu is the best Tapu of all in Pokemon Go and a great choice for Master League in particular. Although she doesn't have a Fairy-type fast move, she can quickly charge Nature's Madness thanks to Bullet Seed. You can also teach Tapu Bulu the Solar Beam Charge move to decimate enemies, placing the Legendary among the best Grass attackers.

In PvP, make sure to stay away from Steel, Flying, and Poison-type Pokemon to keep Tapu Bulu in the fight longer.

Kartana

Kartana tops all the Grass-type charts in Pokemon Go due to its massive ATK stat, and is only surpassed by Mega Evolutions. Ultra Beast can load up its moves quite quickly and deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time, which is ideal for raids and can be very useful in PvP as well.

The downside to Kartana's stats is that she won't survive long, so you'll need to make sure you do as much damage as possible as soon as possible.

Blacephalon

Ultra Beast Blacephalon is very similar to Chandelure, a decent choice for both PvP and PvE, but can't last long in combat. If you plan to use it, you'll need to be careful and dodge a lot while waiting for Mystical Fire to charge.

And while Blacephalon is weak against Dark, Ghost, Ground, Rock, and Water-type attacks, it also boasts a total of nine resistances that make it a viable choice in all Battle League formats.

Xurkitree

As a pure Electric-type Pokemon, Xurkitree is one of the best raiders you'll find. Only weak to Ground-type attacks and with a decent volume, Xurkitree can defeat Water-type and Flying-type Pokemon in no time without risking being defeated.

You can teach Xurkitree the Grass Power Whip move to give it cover against super effective ground types and you'll have one of the most reliable Pokemon for both PvE and PvP.

Dusk Mane Necrozma

As a pure Psychic-type Pokemon, Necrozma can't get any listings in Pokemon Go, but you can fuse it with either Solgaleo or Lunala to get one of the strongest Alolan Pokemon in the game.

By fusing Necrozma and Solgaleo, you get Psychic/Steel Dusk Mane Necrozma. While both fusions have the exact same stats, Solgaleo has four weaknesses, which can be a problem when facing expert trainers. However, Dusk Mane Necrozma is the best Steel-type attacker in Pokemon Go.

Dawnwings Necrozma

Lunala's fusion with Necrozma is only weak to Dark and Ghost attacks, which aren't big in either Pokemon Go PvP format. You won't find a better Ghost attacker than Dawn Wings Necrozma in the game, with Moongiest Beam being an absolute nuke to decimate enemies.

You can also teach Dawn Wings Necrozma and other Psychic, Steel, Dark, and Dragon type attacks for cover and to be able to deal with less obvious raids. It's a great overall pick for any battle in Pokemon Go, surpassed only by the likes of Mega Rayquaza and Primal Groudon.
