The Widow's Widow (Episode Three)
Tera begins to show her humanity
episode three, “Widow's Widow”, it is one of the slowest of the season, without much going on. It mainly focuses on Tera trying to become a mother to Maria again and teaching her that she is no danger as a newly turned female vampire. Juste doesn't believe her, which starts a cool but very short fight between Tera and Juste.
The final execution of the King of France comes somewhat out of the blue, but thickens the plot with Annette. What is this devil that he sees whenever the dead are around? Episode three opens up some questions but doesn't offer much in the way of entertainment value.
7
Into The Abyss (Episode Five)
Will they or won't they?
The fifth episode of Castlevania: Nocturne, “Into the Abyss” it's another slower one that builds momentum towards the end of the season. Alucard leaves Annette and Richter to find allies in the remnants of the French resistance group in the city. Maria almost turns into a vampire by her own choice, but her mother refuses.
This is also the episode that shows how Erzsebet Bathory finally becomes the vampire queen by drinking Sekhmet's blood. Finally, Annette and Richter almost kiss, but are interrupted by Annette's ghostly ancestors surrounding them. Episode five is an important one, but fans won't remember much about it other than moving the plot along.
6
Ancestors (Episode Six)
Dive into the realm of the gods
“Ancestors”, the sixth episode, is mostly about Annette as it follows her into the realm of the gods. She hopes to find Sekhmet's core soul to gain a fighting chance against Erzsebet and all her powers. It's methodically paced and important, but it's still an episode that isn't full of amazing moments.

Here's a breakdown of the origins of the video game characters that appear in Castlevania: Nocturne.
The best part of the episode is the beginning, as Maria regains control of her beasts with the help of darkness. There's also a fun flashback to when Richter and Annette were training as kids, which is animated in a different style to make it look more pencil-like.
5
Angel of Death (Episode Two)
Dive into Drolta's backstory
Drolta was one of the main vampire villains in season one and she died at the hands of Alucard. In season two, she is revived by the end of episode one. episode two, “Angel of Death” begins with a backstory of Drolta as an Egyptian priestess who watches over the tomb of Sekhmet. After killing a vampire, she too becomes one to watch over her mistress forever. This is part of the big story of this episode, which is good to find context for.
The other big reveal was Richter going back to Juste to ask for his help and he obliges. It was good to finally see Juste fighting again, even if he wasn't the best (unlike his debut adventure on the Game Boy Advance, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance). Overall, the backstory for Drolta is good, as is her ending fight, and just seeing Juste again is a confidence booster.
4
A Line of Great Heroes (Episode Eight)
Leaving our heroes on a good note
“A Line of Great Heroes” it feels like The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, in that it has a lot of endings. The battle that ended in episode seven resumes here and is quickly resolved. This leaves most of the episode dealing with the latter characters.
It also sets things up for season three, but if it never happens, fans won't be too disappointed and stuck with some giant anime. Even though about two-thirds of the episode isn't full of exciting emotions, Richter has an unforgettable moment when he executes Drolta. It leaves the series in a good place while keeping the door open for more.
3
A Living Legend (Episode One)
Restoring the Plot
Season one begins with an amazing fight scene that features Alucard in a flashback. He combs the depths of an Egyptian tomb in search of Sekhmet's corpse to crush some of Erzsebet Bathory's power. It's an interesting opening, but the rest of the episode is more plot-driven as it goes through the main cast and resets their situations.

Maria is sad for her mother, Tera. Tera comes to terms with being a vampire. Richter is upset that he was defeated last season, but is glad that Alucard is there to help, etc. The wildest part of “A Living Legend” it's the end, when Drolta is resurrected as a new demon by the Abbot's infernal machine.
2
Monstrous Things (Episode Four)
Maria's patricide
“Monstrous Things” it has a lot of good stuff in it, not the least of which is the final fight in the french museum. While the choreography is killer, there's another moment that surpasses almost everything that happens in season two. Maria, wild with rage because the Abbot is turning her mother into a vampire and creating monsters herself, goes to the Abbot's church to kill him.
As Juste tries to calm her down, Maria doesn't listen and instead lights up the lowly father with her summoned dragon. The look in her eyes is unsettling, and the animators did a great job of conveying that Maria is lost in that moment. It's a striking image that would make a great desktop wallpaper.
1
Grenadye Alaso (Episode Seven)
Climate Battle
Season two built up to the events of “Granada Alaso”, and the majority Castlevania seasons have great finales. It's just weird that it appeared in episode seven and not eight, because this episode is pretty much all action.
The battles are fought from all parts of the city and all are well animated as well. The budget can be clearly seen here, and if this episode doesn't get the blood pumping, then no anime can. From Maria's magical dragon, to Richter's whip tragedy, to Alucard being the best, it's a fantastic episode and the absolute pinnacle of Castlevania: Nocturne season 2.
