Extremely influenced by the bizarre horror thriller style of Twin Peaks, Deadly premonition features an FBI agent named Francis Morgan investigating a gruesome murder. Where most horror games stick to a mostly linear path, Deadly Premonition is one of the few that features an open world to explore.
The open-world mechanism allowed players to explore, complete missions, unlock cosmetics for Morgan, and take care of the character's needs. Things like food and sleep are important, otherwise Morgan starts to lose health. Add supernatural enemies and a villain known as the Raincoat Killer; Deadly premonition it's unlike most games out there.

Playing as a legacy character helped create Saw feel authentic to the movies, especially since it gets the visual style of the movies almost perfectly, even down to the quick edits and transitions.
